However, I wish you would have used the space for some of your good talks and omitted the “ Mormonism” (just a suggestion!) The Smoking Question Again I have only been a recent reader of The King’s Business and certainly enjoy it very much. I have been a traveling man for many years and noticed Daniel Robinson’s let ter in the February issue about smoking for Christians. I have had plenty of dis tasteful experiences with the same and I believe the time has come when we should stand up and be counted for the issue. A man may smoke and still be a Christian but what about his witnessing and example for others? Most smokers today are so calloused that they have very little respect for the feelings of others. They say at least 50% smoke. What about the other 50% ? Do they en joy smelling and breathing other peo ple’s smoke? My father often said they have no more right to poison the air we breathe than the water we drink. Read and listen to the advertisements: “ sore throat,” “ smoke hangover”—crude ad vertisements and songs over radio for our children to hear and learn, the ex ample of fathers, and especially moth ers, for children of their own and neigh borhood, the left-over odor in the home for all to breathe. What about fires and loss of life and property—hotel fires, mattress fires, cur tains— falling to sleep with lighted cig arette? There is hardly a day we don’t read of loss of property or life due to same. We hesitate to stay in hotels any more. Our circle of Christian friends has been reduced about half due to the fact we don’t smoke and don’t like smoking in our house. In view of the above, I ask is it possible to be a Christian in the true sense as taught by Christ? I would like for an open discussion in your Reader Reaction column as to what we Christian non-smokers can and should do about this type of Christian witnessing. H. WOLFE Harrisburg, Pa.
