Stories of our collective effort in advancing innovation in Africa The AfriLabs Annual Magazine - Kubatana is a tool for im- pact storytelling on the recent activities and programs of AfriLabs. In the last half of 2021, AfriLabs started the creation of an Annual Magazine named Kubatana meaning ‘togetherness’ in the Shona language of Zimbabwe. This magazine show- cases and celebrates the work that African innovation eco- system builders do across the continent. It is a comprehensive compilation of the latest develop- ments from the AfriLabs community, other African innova- tion leaders and organisations; and ecosystem stories in Africa and the Diaspora. It features guest articles, stories, interviews, innovation space showcases, insights, and re- ports in a highly visual and interactive format.
ISSUE 1 Feb. 2022 The Beginning: AfriLabs After 10 Years The maiden edition told the story of AfriLabs journey so far, through the eyes of its pioneers, team members, community members, funders and partners.
There were guest articles, feature stories, interviews, community updates per region in Africa and the diaspora etc.
ISSUE 2 Oct. 2022 Ubuntu! Now that we had found our voice, we built on the foundation of the first edition of Kubatana. We intended to explore and tell more stories about the innovation ecosystem in Africa. We wanted to put the spotlight on our heroes and amplify their strides. We aimed to connect the continent, one shared experience at a time, knitting a tapestry of our common grounds and all that bound us together while reminding ourselves why we started.
