Rugby is a sport that welcomes everyone and to be successful, requires a wide range of talents. The popular Crusaders program is designed for both new players and returning Crusaders, with practices designed to help develop skills, training, philosophy and strategy necessary to allow everyone to participate in this sport. The sessions are non-contact and are taught by fully qualified coaches, allowing everyone to learn in a safe, structured and supportive environment. The Crusaders have developed strong links with the local high school programs (Naperville Warriors, Neuqua Wildcats, Plainfield Thundercats, Chiefs, Elmhurst Rugby and Arlington Stallions). Rugby is a game that welcomes all kids. No prior experience is necessary. Safety and enjoyment are the top priorities. USA Rugby qualified coaches will work with participants to teach positions and rules, while developing skills in passing, tackling, rucking, mauling, scrums, and lineouts to allow for full enjoyment in a safe environment. Participants will have the option to participate in competitive games, where they will compete for the Rugby Illinois State Championship. Games take place on Sundays, within 1-hour drive from Naperville. Each participant will be provided shorts, socks, and a Crusaders T-shirt. Cleats and a mouth guard are required. Fee includes Rugby Illinois and USA Rugby memberships which are mandatory to play competitive rugby in the USA. Rugby: Rookie Rugby • AGES 7-10 Rugby combines the best attributes of American football, basketball, soccer, lacrosse and so many other sports. The program is designed to welcome kids to the sport, providing an introduction into the basics of the game in a non-contact format. No prior playing experience is necessary. Safety and enjoyment are the top priorities. USA Rugby qualified coaches work with participants to teach positions and rules, while developing skills in passing, tackling, rucking, mauling, scrums, and lineouts to allow for full enjoyment in a safe environment. Participants will have the option to participate in non-contact (touch) games at the Rugby Illinois and Rugby Festivals. Up to 7 festivals are expected and usually played on Sundays within a 1-hour drive of Naperville. Each participant will be provided shorts, socks, and a Crusaders T-shirt. Cleats and a mouth guard are required. Fee includes Rugby Illinois and USA Rugby memberships which are mandatory to play competitive rugby in the USA.
