National Volunteer Week

Introducing Mel, she has a huge heart and can pack an incredibly coordinated clothing pack. “ Nearing retirement from teaching, I knew I wanted to continue doing something to help children. I had heard great things about Tassie Mums and as I completed the training and learned more about what they do, I was hooked. Volunteering always engaging, busy and the people are always friendly and helpful. I particularly enjoy preparing the boxes for individual children – selecting clothing that children will enjoy wearing, selecting books carefully for the appropriate age group and finding just the ‘right’ soft toy for that child to love. Imaginge how these children must feel upon receiving these ‘gifts’ (actually necessities) when the have been going through difficult times! It is so special and a privilege to be involved in an organisation helping beautiful Tasmanian children in need” During May we enjoyed celebrating National Volunteer Week and sharing profiles on our social media platforms of a selection of our dedicated volunteers. In case you missed it here are a few.

This is Deb, a super clever all rounder and talented maker. “ Three years ago my daughter tagged me in a Tassie Mums Facebook post. Tassie Mums were looking for more volunteer, I had just retired and my daughter knew how much I loved washing and folding! I now volunteer two shifts per week and the work I do is varied and always interesting. I love the people I volunteer with – we share lots of laughs and they are all so generous, caring and passionate about Tassie Mums cause and philosophy.”
