“ the heart of Seventh-day Adventist teaching.” We will let Leroy Froom, whom Mr. Martin’s Foreword calls “ the noted Adventist historian” ex plain what he believed about the atonement. It is a long story how Mrs. White “ recommended” Crosier’s “ Day Star Extra” which set forth “ the true light” that is, on “ the cleansing of the sanctuary” which included the blas phemous heresy that the atonement was not completed on Calvary. Here is the partial quotation from Page 1233, Appen. D., of Vol IV, “ The Prophetic Faith of our Fathers,” by Leroy Froom: “ 1. If the atonement was made on Cal vary, by whom was it made? The making of the atonement is the work of a Priest; but who officiated on Cal vary? Roman soldiers and wicked Jews. The Atonement was made in the Sanctuary, but Calvary was not such a place.” Surely what one believes about the once-for-all atonement of our Lord Jesus Christ has something to do with “ salvation and Christian living” and if Mrs. White were not straight on that, she could be “ off” on anything else, which she was! The afore-men tioned Francis Nichol quotes Mrs. White as saying “ The Lord shew (ed) me a vision . . . that Brother Crosier had the true light . . . I feel fully authorized by the Lord, to recommend that Extra [which set forth this sanc tuary theory] to every saint.”

And if one believed, and kept the Sabbath, and received the blessing at tending it, and then gave it up, and broke the Sabbath, and broke the holy commandment, they would shut the gates of the Holy City against them selves, as sure as there was a God that ruled in the heaven above” ( “Mrs. E. G. White and Her Critics” by Francis Nichol). For you see, my friends, I did keep the sabbath, and I no longer keep it; but you know, I have peace and joy in believing that Christ has saved me; that He gave His life on the cross for me, and is a living Saviour who now makes intercession for me, not atone ment, since He completed the work of redemption on Calvary’s tree. I have communion with Him every day and I do not believe that Mrs. White was right when she said the gates of the Holy City were closed against me. How I praise God that I am “ free from the law” for it is indeed “ a happy condition” ! I would God that every Adventist could break the chains that bind him and would come out into the light. Books like Martin’s are only hindering those who are groping in the dark. The two Galatian errors of Seventh-day Adventism, law- obedience mixed with faith for the sinner’s justification, and the believer- made-perfect by law-keeping, can only receive God’s anathema, of Gal. 1:8, 9. Yours in His wonderful grace, (Signed) Mary Lyons

It is extremely serious when one tampers with Calvary. This teaching denies that when the Lord Jesus Christ cried: “ It is finished,” He was refer ring to the full atonement that He had made for us, when He “ put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.” Yet Mr. Martin has the temerity to doggedly insist: “ Not one of the devi ations in Seventh-day Adventism is a deviation from the cardinal doctrines of the Christian faith which are neces sary to salvation,” (Page 229 of his book). I think you can see why I say that this book is not the whole truth about Seventh-day Adventism, and the more I read it, the more I discover of vital fact that he has left out to make a good case for his position as stated on Page 239: “We believe that these facts [?] conclusively show the right of the Adventists to be called Christians and we further believe that other Chris tians should recognize them as fellow- believers and extend fellowship to them, within the New Testament defi nition of fellowship.” This premise I believe to be wholly untenable. Mrs. White actually described me in one of her “visions.” This what she said: “ I saw that the holy sabbath is, and will be, the separating wall between the true Israel of God and the unbelievers; and that the sabbath is the great question, to unite the hearts of God’s dear waiting saints.

The Thousand Years' Reign of Christ Over The Earth (cont. from page 22) like the ox. And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea” (Isa. 11:6-9).

with 1 Corinthians 15th chapter, verses 24 to 28, but before doing so, it will be necessary for Him to punfy the earth once again. During the Millennial Reign of Christ children will be bom into the world and it will be just as necessary for these to be bom again as it is for children in this age to receive a new birth. That chil dren will be bom into the world during the reign of Christ is made clear from the 11th chapter of Isaiah, verse 8, “ And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den.” Many children of godly parents during this age are gospel hardened, and many children in that day will take a similar attitude toward the things of God. They will render, however, feigned obedience to the King and will submit to His rule, simply because they must. Satan is loosed from his prison and the King veils His glory in order that these may openly declare themselves. That rebellion is described in Revelation 20:7 and 8. “ Fires will then be rained down from heaven and will devour them.” “ And the devil that deceived them” will then be “ cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are” (Revelation 20:10). Then will take place the Judgment of the Great White Throne, after which the earth itself will be puri fied, and “ a new heaven and a new earth” will appear; “ for the first heaven and the first earth” will have passed away (Rev. 21:1). There will be no more sea. And after the earth has been purified and made new, The Lord Jesus shall hand it back to the Father, and God shall be all in all.

One of the most beautiful pictures the prophets paint for us of that day, when the curse is removed, is that portrayed in Zech. 8:5: “ And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof.” Go to Jerusalem today, and you will see the boys and girls on the streets, but they are not playing! Most of them do not know what it is to play. They are pitiful, scrawny, hopeless little specimens of humanity, many of them going to bed at night without food. You could not get those children to play; but the day will come when they will play in the streets of Jerusalem. They will no longer be emaciated and listless and forlorn, when the “ Sun of Righteousness” arises “with healing in his wings!” Then they will be happy and lighthearted and gay, as children should be. In that day when Christ reigns, He will lift from the earth the curse of death, except for those who rebel against Him. Those who rebel against the King will die, like Ananias and Sapphira; but those who yield allegiance shall live on and on. Men shall live for a thousand years then. After The Millennium— What? At the close of the Thousand Years, Christ shall surrender the Kingdom back to the Father in accordance
