neither can God forget those for whom His Son gave His life. As a sweet re frain, the words of her Lord came to Mother’s heart. “Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are numbered. Fear ye not, therefore; ye are of more value than many sparrows” (Matt. 10:29-31). O blessed peace to trust in Him. . A Home How wonderful it is to have a place where the family can settle down together at night and rejoice in that which Christ has done for them during the day. The walls of the home are not built of wood, brick or stone but of truth and loyalty. Unpleasant sounds, the friction of living, the clash of personalities are not deadened by Persian rugs or polished floors but by conciliation, concession and self-control. The house is not a structure where bodies meet but a hearthstone upon which flames mingle, separate, flames of souls which the more perfectly they unite, the more clearly they shine, and straighter they rise toward Christ and heaven. Your house is your fortress in a waring world where a woman’s hand buckles on your armour in the morning and soothes your fatigued mind at night. The beauty of a house is harmony, the security of a house is loyalty, the joy of a house is love, the plenty of a house is in children. The rule of a house is service, the comfort of a house is in contented spirits. The maker of a house, of a real human house, is the Lord Himself, the same Who made the stars and built the world, for except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it. And other foundation can no man lay than that is laid which is Jesus Christ the Lord. Thirteen Progressions of Life A t F ive: “ The stork brought us a new baby sister.” A t T en: “M y Dad can lick any man tw ice his size.” A t F ifteen : “ G irls are just . . . blaaaah!” A t Tw enty: “ Just give m e a chance. I’ll show everybod y!” A t T h irty: “ In a few years, people w ill wake up and demand their rights.” A t T h irty-five: “ I’d be rich, if I’d stayed single.” A t F orty: “ I think I ’d better have som e m ore o f those vitam in pills.” A t F ifty-five: “ Thank goodness I have a good bed.” A t S ixty: “ I was m ighty fortunate to pick such a good w ife.” A t S ixty-five: “ W h y, I feel as you ng as I did tw en ty years ago." A t S even ty: “ I don’t know what these m odern you ng people are com ing to.” And so goes th e philosophy o f the world . . . w ith the d ifferen t ages o f life. But H en ry Van D yk e had a much better sense of reasoning when h e w rote . . . “ Four things a man must learn to do If he w ill keep his record true: To think w ithout confusion clearly, To love his fellow man sin cerely, To act from honest m otive pu rely, To trust in God and heaven secu rely.”

B Y A L T H E A S . M I L L E R I t w a s ironing day and Mother was working fast to get to the bottom of that bushel basket. As she worked she made mental notes of buttons off here, seams apart there. This week the mending could not be put off. Alone in the room, or so she thought, a much frayed blouse* of her own caused Mother to comment aloud: “ I certainly need a new one. This is beyond repair.” “What size do you wear, Mommie?” “ Size 34.” Mother stopped short. She had just spoken to someone! Turn ing, she saw Ardyth. “What are you doing here?” . “I just came in to talk to you. Why don’t you buy a new blouse for your self? Forget us children just once and go buy something! We’ll all live. But I really do need some underwear and shoes.” “You see what I mean?” Mother laughed. “How can Mommie forget that all eight of her children are nearly always either wearing out or growing out of clothing and shoes?” “Well, where are we going to get the money to get your blouse and the things we kids need? Can we pray for them to come to us? Is God interested in giving us clothes?” “ Indeed He is, Honey. How do you think our family has been cared for down to the smallest detail through these 25 years?” “ You and Daddy got us the stuff we needed.” “This is only partly the truth, Ardyth. We have managed, to the best of our ability, the money which God has permitted us to earn. But who gave us the ability and health to earn?” “ God. You know, God really IS interested in us. I’m so glad we can count on Him to take care of us.” “ So am I. Let’s just pray and see what God will do.” After her eight year old left to go to play, Mother recalled some of her words: “Why don’t you forget us kids just for once?” “ Can a mother forget her bairns?” she reflected. As no true parent can summarily dismiss his child’s needs in favor of his own, I
