QUIZTIME

Jesus to go away, just as He had told His friends He would go. One day, at the close of those forty days after His resurrection, He met His friends in the city of Jerusalem for the very last time before He went away. Again He talked with them and answered all their questions. Then He led them forth from the great city, down the hill, and across the little brook, on toward Bethany until they came to the Mount of Olives. They had stood on this Mount many times before this day, and now, as before, they no doubt could look back toward the beautiful city of Jerusalem and see again the golden dome of the temple. Or, looking to ward the little village of Bethany, they could recall the happy times they had enjoyed together there. Standing with them, and knowing that He had given an answer to each of their questions and that He had satisfied every heart, for our Lord Jesus knows our hearts, He knew that the time had come for Him to go away as He had never gone away before. As He talked there with these friends who loved Him so much, sud denly a wonderful and amazing thing happened. The Lord Jesus was lifted up from the earth, “ and a cloud re ceived him out of their sight.” As He went, they saw His nail-pierced hands, stretched over them in bless ing. With their eyes fixed upon Him, they stood looking up into heaven, watching until they could no longer see Him. Then suddenly they realized that two men in white clothing were standing by them. These men were God’s messengers, and they said some thing that made the friends of the Lord Jesus very happy. Their mes sage was that the Lord Jesus is com ing back again. “ This same Jesus . . .” they said, “ shall so come in like man ner [or, “ the same way” ] as ye have seen him go into heaven.” The friends returned to Jerusalem with their hearts full of joy and praise, to continue serving the Lord and obeying His last commands to them. And as they went, they no doubt were remembering some of His precious last words to them: “ Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel,” and “ lo, I am with you al ways.” Today our hearts are made glad, for we, too, know that our Lord is with us wherever we go. And we know that on some glad day, which we believe will come very soon, our Lord Jesus is coming back again to be seen just as His friends saw Him on that day when He went “ into heaven.” Then we shall “ see him as he is,” and “ we shall be like him.”
