TLMI Releases Government, Regulatory Affairs Statements TLMI has released of the association’s first official Government and Regulatory Affairs (GRA) Position Statements. The statements are the first in a GRA series that the TLMI Board of Directors will approve and re- lease to membership and to the greater industry over the next year. These first Government and Regulatory Affairs Position Statements address tariffs and printed labeling. The TLMI Position on Tariffs outlines that it is imperative that the economic playing field is level across the globe for all manufacturers. The statement acknowledges that the implementation of broad-based tariffs has added to the cost and availability of prod- ucts and raw materials throughout the tag and label industry supply chain. The full Position Statement can be accessed at: www.tlmi.com/about/tlmi-posi- tion-statements/position-on-tariffs . The TLMI Position on Printed Labeling states that the association recognizes that not all Americans have ready access to necessary product information through smartphones or similar online technology. A recent ruling in a segment of the food industry only requires simple QR codes for the consumer to scan to ascertain additional product information. This rule not only reduces the amount of printed labeling re- quired on a product, it also minimizes information provided to consumers who many not have access to a smartphone or similar technology. The TLMI Posi- tion on Printed Labeling outlines that printed labeling should remain mandatory in all areas where consum- er or patient safety is at potential risk. The full Posi- tion Statement can be accessed at: www.tlmi.com/ about/tlmi-position-statements/position-on-en- suring-printed-labeling-options . “As the preeminent association in the North Ameri- can label and narrow web industry, TLMI has a respon- sibility to issue official positions on areas and dynam- ics that potentially have an impact on our members, and on the greater marketplace,” said Dan Muenzer, TLMI President. “These first Government and Regula- tory Affairs Position Statements are the result of hard work carried out by our partners at PACE in Washing- ton, D.C., and the entire TLMI Government and Reg- ulatory Affairs Committee. I want to especially thank committee co-chairs Alex Joesten of CCL and Cather- ine Heckman of Ashland for working so diligently with their team and the Board of Directors in getting these statements finalized and approved. These are the first in what will be a series of Government and Regulato- ry Affairs Position Statements as we continue to work on behalf of our members in the constantly-changing world of governmental regulations.”
