of the spinal column, are the major muscle groups usually involved in lower back injury. 5.Fractures: Thesearedue to trauma, orsometimes occur without any injury in people with osteoporosis. 6. Spinal cord compression: This is unusual, but very worrisome and may be associated with weakness and loss of bowel/bladder control. Medication and Bed Rest. Most lower back pain sufferers try over the counter drugs and bed rest. However, most self remedies will not provide the relief that you need. In fact, bed rest is the wrong thing to do because it can weaken the spinal muscles further. Weakness in the spinal muscles is one of the main reasons for low back pain and puts you at risk for injuring your back with common activities such as lifting, bending or squatting. Most of us sit too much and this contributes to severe weakening of the back and torso muscles which are needed for a healthy back.
(continued from outside) There are many different back conditions, but here are a few common ones: 1. Lumbar or sacral radiculopathy: The result of pressure on a nerve exiting the spine. Pain, numbness and tingling can be felt down in different parts of the leg. 2. Sciatica: This comes from compression of the sciatic nerve by a muscle called the piriformis, deep in the buttock. Symptoms can radiate down the buttock and leg. 3. Spinal stenosis: This is a narrowing of the bony spinal canal which causes rubbing or pressure on nerves. Central canal stenosis is quite serious as it presses upon the spinal cord. 4. Lumbar sprain/strain: This is a common cause of low back pain due to injury of muscles and tendons. About To Have Hip Replacement Surgery?
The hip functions as a “ball-and-socket” joint. The top of the thigh (femur) bone (ball) fits into a part of the pelvis called the acetabulum (socket), allowing the joint to move smoothly in multiple directions. Total hip replacement is a surgical procedure that replaces the hip joint with artificial parts. Adults of any age can be considered for a hip replacement, although most are carried out on people between the ages of 60 and 80. A modern artificial hip joint is designed to last for at least 20 years. Most people experience a significant reduction in pain and improvement in their range of movement. Hip replacement surgery is usually necessary when the hip joint is worn or damaged to the extent that your mobility is reduced, and you experience pain even while resting. The most common reason for hip replacement surgery is osteoarthritis. Other conditions that can cause hip joint damage include: Rheumatoid arthritis, Hip fracture, Septic arthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis, Dysplasia, Avascular necrosis etc. Total hip arthroplasty is an orthopedic procedure that involves the surgical excision of the head and proximal neck of the femur and removal of the acetabular cartilage. A canal is created in the proximal medullary region of the femur, and a metal femoral prosthesis, composed of a stem and small-diameter head, is inserted into the femoral medullary canal. An acetabular component composed of a high-molecular- weight polyethylene articulating surface is inserted proximally into the enlarged acetabular space. To yield successful results, these total hip arthroplasty components must be fixed firmly to the bone, either with polymethylmethacrylate cement or, in more recent uncemented designs, by bony ingrowth into a porous coating on the implant, resulting in “biologic” fixation. Traditional hip replacement surgery involves making an incision on the side of the hip (lateral approach) or the back of the hip (posterior approach). Both techniques involve detachment of muscles and tendons from the hip to replace the joint. Detachment of these muscles may result in increased pain after surgery, and often prolongs the time to fully recover by months or even years. Failure of these muscles to heal after surgery may increase the risk of hip dislocation (the ball and socket separating), which is the leading cause of hip replacement failure. Hip precautions after surgery (no bending greater than 90 degrees, no crossing legs, no excessive rotation) are generally required for this reason. Minimally invasive techniques have reduced the incidence of complications and increased the speed of recovery enabling patient to be put on accelerated rehabilitation programs. the Gibson’s modification or the more recent Direct Anterior approach are examples of such techniques and are routinely used at Health City, Cayman Islands. Directanteriorhip replacement isaminimally invasivesurgical technique. This approach involves a 3 to 4-inch incision on the front of the hip that allows the joint to be replaced by moving muscles aside along their natural tissue planes, without detaching any tendons. This approach often results in quicker recovery, less pain, and more normal function after hip replacement. Because the tendons aren’t detached from the hip during direct anterior hip replacement, hip precautions are typically not necessary. This allows patients to return to normal daily activities shortly after surgery with a reduced risk of dislocation.

4 EASY TRICKS TO RELIEVE A HEADACHE 1. Regular exercise. Migraine patients are at a slightly increased risk of stroke, and lack of exercise is a risk factor for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease. Vigorous, regular exercise can help reduce these risks. If you suffer from migraines on a regular basis, consider making one small switch to your diet: more nuts. Nuts can work as both a pain reliever and a preventative method to stave off future onsets. Many varieties of nuts contain an important “ingredient” called salicin. Salicin is a pain blocking agent that’s present in many of today’s medications. Though you may want to reach for an over the counter pain reliever when migraines strike, choose nuts—they offer the same important ingredients.
2. Adequate sleep. Getting enough sleep on a regular basis is part of proper migraine maintenance that should be practiced to keep your headaches to a minimum. Sleep also includes darkness. Light, especially bright light, can cause an increase in migraine headache symptoms and can prolong a headache. 3. Balanced diet. Eating regular meals, avoiding foods that trigger headaches, and staying hydrated will also help reduce the pain and frequency of your headaches.
4. Work on improving your posture. Keep your shoulders back, and have your head in a neutral position at all times. Always avoid standing or sitting in a hunched over position. This technique will help prevent headaches most frequently in a work environment.
