A newprogram to help newbusiness start- ups in the Prescott-Russell region made its debut. The Prescott-Rus-
business workshops, seminars and networ- king events which can assist them in a variety of ways, fromwriting a business plan tomar- keting and making effective use of social media to help grow their business, along with budget planning, and making an “elevator pitch” for support of their enterprise. “Not only will these entrepreneurs get sound advice fromexperts in their respective fields,” stated Benoit Brunette, PREC pro- ject officer, “they will also be able to apply for a grant of up to $5,000. This financial assistance, in the form of a grant funding, will help with several expenses, including equipment purchases, inventory purchases, marketing expenses, registration and trai- ning fees andmiscellaneous entrepreneurial expenses. If there is an essential document
to present for funding or to apply for a grant, that is the business plan. Not only does it help to convince investors and lenders, it is also a reflection tool to better understand what these entrepreneurs are committing to as a freelancer, consultant or self-employed worker.” The Starter Company Plus programdiffers from the original Starter Company program set up in 2013.That one was limited to parti- cipants aged 18 to 29.The new version has no age limits to applicants.The sole guidelines are participants must be Canadian citizens living in Ontario, 18 or older, and not atten- ding school full-time or returning to school. Kevin Lamoureux is a federal prison inmate wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for being unlawfully at large. The 37-year-old felon is serving two-and-a-half years for break- and-enter, weapon possession, possession of stolen property, attempting to escape police, and failure to comply with legal order. He is 37 years old, stands five-foot- nine, andweighs 200 pounds. He has scars on his forehead, right temple, and left hand, and has a tattoo, on his neck, of hands clasped in prayer with the inscription “only God can judge”.
