Counties ask for housing subsidy review

Casselman Mayor Conrad Lamadeleine asked, during the February UCPR council session, about the feasibility of increasing the per diem rate by two dollars. The Domiciliary Hostels Association (DHA) had also asked the UCPR, last au- tumn, to increase the per diem to $52 effec- tive January 2015. At that time, the UCPR
There will be no increase this year in the subsidized housing assistance from the United Counties for owner/operators, but that does not mean rule out the chance for an increase next year. The United Counties of Prescott-Russell council (UCPR) decided to let the status quo remain in effect for the annual per diem provided to owner/operators of domiciliary hostels, for each resident staying at their

UCPR staff, at the time, were trying to work out budgeting needs tomain- tain the counties social service programs, including the domiciliary hostels per diem, which would allow for last year’s provincial government’s own cuts in support funding for local social service programs. Counties council reviewed a summary report from Anne Comtois-Lalonde, UCPR social services director, on the per diem situation, during its March 11 committee of the whole session. Council decided to keep the per diem at its present $50 rate since the 2015 budget was already approved. But counties council asked the social services director for a follow-up review report on the per diem situation for later in the year as part of the 2016 budget discussion.

Hawkesbury OPP Constable Jonathan Lacelle inves- tigated a complaint of fraudulent cheques that had been made in the town of Hawkesbury. The investiga- tion revealed that a 21-year-old man wrote a series of cheques by using someone else’s cheques and forging the person’s signature.Twenty-one-year-old Eric Brunet of Hawkesbury was charged with two counts of fraud under $5,000, of section 380(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada. Brunet is scheduled to appear at the L’Orignal Court on April.
