top tips TO PR E PAR E F OR YOUR PRO J E C T. . . • After sanding, remove dust and loose fragments by dusting with a clean dry brush, and then wiping with a clean damp cloth (using Methylated spirits). Leave to dry. • Avoid cleaning surfaces withWhite Spirit or wire brushes, to prevent the greasiness of White Spirit residue and the unsightly marks and rust associated with metallic fragments. Instead use Methylated spirit (often purple in colour) and a stiff nylon brush where appropriate. • If you’re using more than one batch of woodstain in the same area, mix together in a large container to ensure you get consistency of colour. • Pay particular attention to the ends of your decking as these are 100%more absorbent than the face grain. For freshly sawn timber, a wood preserver must be used prior to staining. Seek advice in-store as to whether you are purchasing treated or untreated timber.
