Welcome Welcome to Rising Voices: Inspiring Students en español. I am thrilled to present to you this unique library of Spanish-language books with bilingual teaching supports. Rising Voices: Inspiring Students en español fills a crucial gap in educational resources for students in grades K–5. My 28-year-long career as an educator spans time spent as a teacher, a principal, and a superintendent in K to 12 schools. As a bilingual educator fluent in Spanish, I found that I was often called upon to select and even create Spanish-language materials for some students. When I served as a principal in southern California, I frequently had difficulty acquiring Spanish-language books. I understand firsthand the challenges of obtaining Spanish resources, especially relevant and engaging reads for young learners. That is why I am truly delighted to serve as a mentor for Rising Voices: Inspiring Students en español. The curation process has been exceptional. The dedicated Scholastic team, comprising former teachers and curriculum experts, meticulously reviewed nearly 400 books, searching for texts with strong human protagonists. From this extensive review, 25 unique titles per grade level (K–5) were selected. The literature and illustrations in these beautiful books demonstrate unparalleled quality. The comprehensive bilingual Teaching Cards and this bilingual guide serve as resources for educators, even those with limited knowledge of Spanish, to effectively engage students and build literacy.
