Pillar 3 Technology Connects Everything

Digital connected everything Technology underscores the indispensable role of bringing our user experiences into the modern world and into the future. Buildings constructed decades ago simply were not designed with current technological, or generational requirements in mind. Remember, ethernet wasn’t developed until 1973 by Bob Metcalf at Xerox PARC. Today, technology permeates every aspect of building IT and OT functionality, from network connectivity and video conferencing to air quality control, lighting efficiency, and power management. The integration of technology throughout the building lifecycle is no longer a choice, but a necessity to achieve efficiency, safety, sustainability, and user satisfaction. As buildings evolve into sophisticated, aware systems, technology becomes increasingly central to enhancing the built environment. Key Considerations: • Where to start on the refresh for technology in a building? • How to evaluate an entire real estate portfolio based on location and cost of power? • How to evaluate the difference between IT and OT vendors? • Over the next few months, we will be diving into each of these pillars in more detail with data, examples, and most importantly, the new measures and metrics that are defining these spaces.
