A demerit point is a penalty point you get when you commit certain driving o ff ences, such as speeding or dangerous driving. Demerit points last for four years. They start from the date you committed the related driving o ff ence. ___________________________________________ Company and organisation fines If a company or organisation receives an infringement notice for a driving o ff ence, they must nominate the driver directly to Fines Victoria within 21 days. If not, the company or organisation could face significant penalties. ___________________________________________ Licence suspension Your licence will be suspended for three months. You get an extra one month for every four The extension lasts 12 months. Your licence suspension will be applied (and the length of time doubled) if you commit an o ff ence that: suspends or cancels your licence has demerit points. Once the extended period ends, normal demerit point rules apply again. Any demerit points you got during the extended period will remain active.
