Run! Walk! Just do it!
Opening day of Fair at 12:30, kids can get moving! Joined by Dr. Ed Manansala, El Dorado County Office of Education superintendent, kids (and parents) have the chance to walk or run a 1k around the fairgrounds. And at the end, all participants will receive a prize, and they will feel good about getting moving too! Those that wish to pre-register may do so on our website, eldoradocountyfair.org, under “Contests.” Participation is free. On-site registration and check in is on the Main Lawn at 12:15.
No Poultry in 2019 You may wonder where the poultry is this year. Due to a recent outbreak and warnings from CFDA, the Fair Association eliminated the poultry competition this year. “It was a difficult decision; we know how hard everyone works with their livestock, whether it be steer, swine or poultry. We just couldn’t take the risk,” shared Jody Gray, CEO. “CDFA is asking everyone to maintain this heightened biosecurity effort through June.” Virulent Newcastle disease is a fast spreading virus that affects the respiratory, nervous and digestive system of birds,
but mostly poultry. The last US outbreak occurred in 2002 in Southern California, resulting in the death of 3.2 million birds and the response cost of over $160 million. Barring any change from CDFA, the poultry competitions will resume in 2020. For more information, visit cdfa.ca.gov/ahfss.
