Safety First! “Safety at fair is our absolute first priority,” shares Jody Gray, CEO. “And that means all types of safety, safe rides, safe barns, and safe patrons.” Fair and carnival staff is screened prior to hire— backgrounds are checked and only those that pass this check are allowed to work or volunteer at fair. The first things you will notice as you come through the gates of El Dorado County Fair are the signs, listing the items not allowed inside the fair gates. The fair guest services and security staff work closely with local law enforcement making sure patrons are safe, without imposing too many restrictions. Fair staff search bags and people, visibly checking bag contents and all entrants go through an electronic screening. While some find it annoying, Fair staff and law enforcement prefer doing all that is possible to keep El Dorado County Fair a family friendly, safe fair. In light of today’s world, most fair goers are very supportive. CCW holders are not permitted to bring in weapons. Other items not allowed are alcohol and gang attire. Under-age drinking is a chronic problem in our country, and the fair staff is diligent about making sure anyone served alcohol at fair is of age, and will have a wrist band. Under-age drinking is unacceptable, and violators will be turned over to law enforcement. El Dorado County Fair is a non-smoking/non-vaping Fair. There are designated smoking/vaping areas in the Smoking Tent (between the Carnival & Organ Room) and at the Beer Tree (except within 25 feet of buildings, shade structures, stages, animal exhibits, children’s attractions or food booths) and behind the Grandstands. Smoking marijuana on Fairgrounds during Fair is NOT allowed. Fair staff encourages parents to photograph their children when entering the gates – there is a “photo opportunity” board (image of this year’s fair theme) at each gate. In the unlikely event a child is lost, worried parents will have a current photo of their child. The Fair staff utilizes the national program“Code Adam” for missing children, and in some cases, exit gates are closed until the family is reunited. In addition to the entire fair and carnival staff, the El Dorado County Search and Rescue team actively search for the child—it is usually less than 5 minutes before everyone is reunited. Fair security, guest service staff, Placerville Police Department and undercover police are constantly patrolling the grounds, making sure that everyone is having a safe time. Stop and say hi, and thank them for keeping the grounds safe. For more information, please visit our website at eldoradocountyfair.org, or call the office at (530) 621-5860.
