4 —Wednesday, July 3, 2019 Mother Lode Fair 2019 July 4 concert will kick off musical weekend Sonora, California

Corn dog dinners, funnel cake desserts, thrilling rides, exciting motorsports and bustling barns all will be set to a musical backdrop at this year’s Mother Lode Fair. Several local bands will perform throughout the four-day event, and a concert sponsored by the Tu- olumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians will be the featured musical event on the Fourth of July. Former Sonora resident Jennifer Grant, a singer-songwriter and an on-air personality for 106.9 More FM in Reno, will be the opening act for the free (with gate admis- sion) concert, which will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 4, in the grandstands. Grant will be followed by Bonnie Bishop, a singer-songwriter from

Nashville with a “soulful, dusty- ish voice,” according to her online biography at bonniebishop.com. Bishop has co-written songs that have been performed by music superstar Bonnie Raitt and by ac- tress Connie Britton on the hit TV show “Nashville.” The song record by Raitt, “Not Cause I Wanted To,” was on the album “Slipstream,” which won a Grammy award for Best Americana Album in 2013. The Paul Thorn Band will bring his soulful, roots-rock sound to the stage as the headline act. Thorn, the son of a preacher man and raised in Mississippi, will perform songs from his most recent album, “Don’t Let the Devil Ride,” which features a collection of songs originally cut by black

southern gospel groups with guests the Blind Boys of Alabama, The McCrary Sisters, the Pres- ervation Hall Jazz Horns, and Bonnie Bishop. Local musicians will play on the Corona Stage in the lawn area behind the Food Court.
