Specialty Competitions
COMMERCIAL WINE Now in its eighth year, The Toast of the Coast Wine Competition challenges commercial wineries from throughout the world to submit their best vintages for evaluation and judging. Top performing wines are then served at our Festival, held June 8 in the Paddock. Sip some of the top award winners at The Toast of the Coast Wine Bar in the Garden Show daily. COMMERCIAL BEER Our San Diego International Beer Competition is the largest beer competition on the West Coast. This year, 260 breweries submitted 1,493 beers for consideration! We’ll be serving up hundreds of those beers at our three-day Festival, held June 14-16 in the Del Mar Arena..
COMMERCIAL SPIRITS Shaken or stirred, craft cocktails are all the rage, and we’re celebrating the specialty spirits that make for a great cocktail, or even a straight sipper! From gin to whiskey, the Distilled Competition judges spirits from around the world, and then serves them up at our Festival, taking place June 22 in the Paddock. HOMEBREW: Hobbyist brewers enter their suds—beer, mead, cider and perry—to be sampled and judged by professionals. The Best of Show winning recipe will be brewed by the Home Brewing Company and tapped during the Sunday session of the San Diego International Beer Festival . Bottoms up! HOMEMADE WINE: Amateur winemakers enter their wine (and wine label designs) to be professionally judged. Special awards are given for unique wines, San Diego wines, and wines grown, produced and bottled on the winemaker’s estate. In vino veritas!
