AGRICULTURE & ANIMALS
California leads the United States in agriculture production, producing more than 400 commodities and two-thirds of all fruits and nuts. San Diego County has the most small farms (less than 10 acres) of any other county in the U.S. and is the leading producer of avocados. California is the epicenter of agriculture in the U.S., and agriculture is the heart of our Fair. We fulfill this mission with both competitive and non- competitive exhibits. Ornamental plants are San Diego County’s largest “crop” and we show them off in our renowned Paul Ecke Jr. Flower & Garden Show. LAND. LIVESTOCK. LIFESTYLE.
CA Grown

Open daily until 10:00 p.m.
Our award-winning California Grown exhibit shows you the past, present and future of farming. Don’t think agriculture affects you? If you ate today, you can thank a farmer! Come learn where your food and fiber come from. Step inside and you’ll be greeted by a 20-foot-tall “Farmscraper,” a vertical farming prototype that could bring agriculture right into the heart of the city.
Want to boost your protein intake? Grab a snack at our Bug Bar! Did you know insects are a great source of protein? They come in barbecue, ranch and chipotle flavors, so there’s a crunchy insect to please even the pickiest of pallets! Children can go on their own shopping trip in our Albertsons | Vons Kids Market , where they’re on the hunt for groceries made from California-grown ingredients.

The Farm at Family Funville is the destination for those interested in growing their own food or seeing where our food comes from. Explore the sunflower maze, learn about hydroponics and aquaponics, and visit the EcoContainer. This repurposed shipping container has been transformed into a center for environmental innovation featuring solar energy, a greywater demo system, rain barrels, composting, drought tolerant landscaping and California-friendly gardens. You’ll be inspired to incorporate energy-saving, water-efficient and eco-friendly practices into your daily life!
