4. BY OBEDIENCE. “If there were more abiding In Christ there would be less abiding in America.” The crux of the whole question of volunteers for the great mission fields is obedience. If all who were called obeyed there would be no unevangelized fields. Mark 16:15; Luke 19:13; Acts 1:8, 4:33, 8:4; 2 Tim. 4:2. NOVEMBER 25 What We Thank God For. Psa. 103:1-22. (Thanksgiving Meeting) A study of the Scripture would quickly convince us that most of us are very, very guilty of the sin of in gratitude. We take too much for granted-^vwe accept our manifold blessings as a matter of course—if we would take time ot “count our blessings one by one” we would be more thankful. This 103rd Psalm is an example of David’s thankfulness and is a model for us. In verses 1 to 6 we have an AN NOTATION of BENEFITS. The Lord forgives, heals, re deems, crowns, satisfies, renews and executeth righteous ness. Then in verses 7 to 19 are given the ATTRIBUTES of GOD for which we ought to be thankful, and that leads to ADORATION of GOD in the last two verses. There is not a word of supplication or a petition in the entire psalm. Phil. 4:6, 7; Col. 2:7; Col. 4:2; Rev. 7:12; 2 Cor. 9:12, 15; Psa. 100; Psa. 150; Psa. 50:23; Psa. 34:1-10; Deut. 8:1-20. DECEMBER 2 Lessons From the Psalms. 12 The Life-Obedience Psalm. Psa. 40:1-10 (Consecration Meeting) This is one of the “Messianic” Psalms for it contains a prophecy concerning the Lord Jesus Christ. See John 4:34; 5:30; 6:38; Matt. 26:39 and Heb. 10:4-12. Our Lord set the example for us, Phil. 2:5-8, and was obedient to the will of the Father, even unto death. The life of obedience is the life of power, peace, profit and pleasure. Note carefully these verses, John 14:15, 21; 1st John 2:3-6; 3:18, 24. Christianity is more than a mere profession of religion. We are not saved by our works but our works are the evidence to the world that we are saved. For His first command see John 5:28, 29 and 1 John 3:23. We are to believe on Him, John 5:23 and Psa. 2:12. Then Rom. 12:1, 2; Mark 16:15; John 15:15; Matt. 9:37, 38; 2 Peter 3:18; 1' Cor. 16:2; 2 Tim. 4:2, 5; 1 Thess. 5:14- 22; Eph. 5:18; Eph. 4:22 to 5:21; Phil. 4:13.

COMMENTS ON C. E. TOPICS Rev. V. V. Morgan NOVEMBER 11

Courage Needed Today: For What? Josh. 1:1-9. Courage has always been a very essential virtue in the life and work of a true Christian. Physical courage is not needed so much today as formerly, hut moral courage is greatly needed today. Courage—for what? 1. Courage to FOLLOW the WILL of God. This means a separated-from-the-world, separated-unto- God, life, Means being thought “peculiar” and “queer.” It may mean ridicule and misunderstanding. It may mean Africa or China or South America. 2. Courage to OBEY the WORD of God. This implies, of course, an unshaken faith in the authenticity and in fallibility of the Bible. It will take courage to stand for the Old Book in the face of sneers scorn, and “superior scholarship” (?) 3. Courage to DO the WORK of God. The great work for the believer is not education but evangelization, not social service, but soul-saving. We need courage to witness for Him. It takes courage to be God’s man, follow implictly God’s will, obey God’s Word and do God’s work in God’s way, but IT PAYS—IT PAYS! Deut. 31:6; Josh. 10:25; Psa. 27:14; Psa. 31:24; 2 Tim. 2:3; Jer. 1:8, 17-19; Dan. 1:8, 3:18, 6:10, 11; Acts 4:20, 29-31; Jude 3; Prov. 29:25. NOVEMBER 18 How Obtain a Great Missionary Advance? Acts 13:1-12 1. BY INFORMATION. Study the various fields. Get the facts. Will not be much advance until we realize the need. See John 4:35. Study the Bible to find God’s plan and will concerning the world. 2. BY INSPIRATION. Get in personal touch with as many missionaries as possible. Join some missionary so ciety or prayer band. Attend as many missionary con ferences and meetings as you can. Get missionaries to ad dress your society. 3. BY INTERCESSION. Daily prayer for the various fields. Daily earnest prayer for missionaries by name. See Matt. 9:37, 38.
