in 1734 in New England, "The Great Awakening” under the preaching of Jonathan E d w a r d s , among the hundreds of converts was a little child only four years of age whose case the great evangelist particularly details. He unqualifld- edly defends the reality of the child’s repentance and faith in Christ and its complete spiritual change to the Christians saved nature. Think of how far ahead was the /great thinker in 1734 of /ifiany Christian parents and even pastors today. Rev. They were kneeling together in prayer and she leading prayed God to save them from their sins and give them new hearts. “And,” said she, “God did it then and there and it has lasted all my life.” Who could doubt it that saw and heard her? Doubt neither th ereality of that very early conversion nor her clear experience at eighty years. At South Easton lived Miss Tonkin, 96 years of age. She had a quarterly love feast ticket dating to the year when she was only six and proving that she was a member of the church at that age. She showed it with great joy, saying, “I have been ninety years a Christian!” In my many years’ experience in four great camp meet ings every summer conducting large children’s meetings I have seen many hundreds of wonderful conversion of little children. And have met many of them years afterward who clearly testify that the conscious beginning of their Christian experience came in that childhood salvation. In multitudes of great Decision Day services held as Sunday School secretary, and at still closer range in all my pas torates the same reality of child conversions was unquali fied proven.
