School trustees study trends Results of an IPSOS-Reid culture survey prompted a report to the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) on trends in student choices for study plans. Valerie Allen, schools’ superintendent, and Student Success Principal Frank Hummell outlined how the UCDSB is providing more course options for students.The IPSOS-Reid survey noted increased enrolment in day-school e-Learning for some subjects and also for the after-school continuing education, summer school co-op education, and the Specialist High Skills Major programs, which help students with specific career goals. Le Comité des citoyens de Limoges a pré- senté sa liste d’épicerie de deux pages lors de dernière séance sur le budget de lamu- nicipalité de La Nation, qui se déroulait le 17 octobre dernier. Celle-ci comportait, entre autres, le gel des taxes pour une période de trois ans ainsi qu’un certain nombre de propositions en vue d’améliorer la communauté. Parmi les sept autres articles énumérés, on y retrouvait un nouveau centre commu- nautaire. « L’installation actuelle ne répond plus aux besoins de la population croissante du village », a déclaré le comité, dans sa missive présentée au conseil. Remember that “flame resistant” does not mean “fire-proof” and keep the costume away from any open sources of heat or flame.That includes hand- held sparklers. Keep trick-or-treaters together in groups whenever possible with one or more adults escorting themup to the door and along the street. All adults and older children should have working flashlights. Do not let children eat any of their treats right away. Wait until everyone is home and then check Halloween treats, discarding apples, unwrapped treats, and those, which have tears or holes in the wrappers, which may be suspect.
The OPP also reminds parents to make sure their children dress warm for the cool October weather and make sure costumes are loose enough to wear over warm coats but are not too baggy or long to create a pos- sible tripping hazard. Costumes should be bright in colour so they are easy for motorists to see in their headlights. Strips of reflective tape on the costume will also help. If possible use make-up and face paint instead of masks for a costume. Masks can sometimes limit a child’s vision and some may interfere with proper breathing. Any costume swords, knives and similar items should be made of soft, flexible material,
