Ensure that all effective risk management, governance and audit controls are in place for all Estates Operations activities; 13. Ensure the establishment of appropriate technical design and specification standards in relation to Building Fabric, Services and Infrastructure across the entire University estate. 14. Oversee and co-ordinate the compilation and maintenance of essential records, including asset register, asbestos register, PPM records; 15. Drive a safety culture within the Estates’ team and with all suppliers and contractors. 16.Ensure the provision of a safe, healthy and secure environment for students, staff and visitors; 17. Drive continuous financial and service improvement- improving cost efficiency/ profitability and levels of service experience, anticipating and responding to changing business needs as well as capturing innovations in technological developments. 18. Work proactively and collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to ensure that all activity is both user led and commercially viable; 19. 19.Define and implement key performance indicators that will measure service delivery against business objectives and any contractual requirements and take remedial action as required; 20.Provide leadership in the engagement with and understanding of the University community’s needs and wants. 21.Lead the development of and ensure the provision of marketing, communications and events to promote commercial and wider Estates’ initiatives; 22.Lead the department’s initiatives to embed a customer focused approach and the principles of continuous improvement. 23. Represent the University in estates and sustainability matters with key external partners and stakeholders including but not limited to the local London Boroughs, Greater London Authority, Association of University Directors of Estates, community and business groups and special interest networks.

Job purpose: 1. Provide leadership in all matters related to Estates Operations ensuring an excellent teaching, learning and working environment that supports all corporate strategies and campus life. 2. To foster the best campus experience that supports the creation of Learning Communities, the needs of our students and staff, is digitally enhanced and fit for the next generation. 3. To be a key member of the Estates Department Senior Leadership Team, support and deputise, when required, for the Director of Estates. 4. To support and contribute to the development of the university’s campuses by acting as gatekeeper and intelligent client ensuring a seamless transition into use and that new developments meet with the new Campus Life strategy, are fit for purpose and future proofed. 5. To ensure appropriate governance, statutory compliance and financial control in all Estates Operations matters. 6. To develop and gain approval for key strategies related to the use and operation of the university’s built infrastructure and services.

Principal Accountabilities: 1. Lead the development and ensure the implementation of key estates strategies including but not limited to Campus Life, Asset Replacement and Maintenance, the Carbon and Environmental Management Plan, Digital Campus Roadmap, Catering and Hospitality, Events Management, Security and Business Continuity, Sports, Fitness and Wellbeing; 2. Lead the creation and successful implementation of a departmental development plan, evidencing performance against agreed KP ls and taking responsibility for correcting performance that is below required levels. 3. Continue to grow an excellent, collaborative and positive team environment that supports the University’s ambition to be an employer of choice. 4. Oversee the strategic development, operational management and investment in all aspects of day to day estates operations which currently comprise: • Estates business partnering • Environmental Sustainability and Energy Management • Planned and reactive infrastructure maintenance • Catering and Hospitality • Measurement of the campus user experience • Minor projects • Cleaning and waste management including Pest Control • External and internal events management and Conferencing • Sports and Wellbeing • Security and building reception services

• Porterage and delivery services • Mail services • Grounds maintenance

5. Procure, negotiate and ensure the management of contracted services in the provision of forward looking, technology enabled and cost effective operations services; 6. Lead the drive to Carbon Neutrality by 2030 and set in place the plans and processes to achieve the objectives of the University’s Carbon and Environmental Management Plan. 7. Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the university’s business continuity plan and estates service disruption management. 8. Ensure estates infrastructure and service compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice and other standards; 9. Develop and provide coherent analytical insights into campus use, service satisfaction, operational effectiveness and efficiency from multiple, complex data sources that enable effective service development and campus planning. 10. Ensure the development, instillation, monitoring and continuous improvement of Customer Excellence standards across the entire Estates Department. Ensure that revenue capture and profitability is maximised; strive to exceed consumer expectation, developing quality products and delivering exceptional service/events; 11.Ensure that all delegated Estates Operations ( including commercial revenue)
