Sideline Sports Geraldine Falls In State Semifinals The Geraldine varsity volleyball program fell to Mobile Christian in the 2023 Class 3A State Volleyball Semifinals by scores of 25-20, 25-20, 25-8. Geraldine reached the semifinal round by defeating Prattville Christian 25-20, 25-14, and 26-24. Arab Volleyball Falls In 5A Finals Montgomery Academy defeated Arab High in the Class 5A State Volleyball Championship. The Eagles (53-6), coached by Julie Gordon, won 25-16, 23- 25, 25-19, 25-14 to clinch the school’s eighth state volleyball title in school history and their first since 2020. Arab (48-14), coached by Amy Hudson, was paced by setter Millie Lackey, who had 35 assists and nine digs, Laney Kelley with 16 kills and 13 digs, Marissa Pope with 18 digs, and Sami Kate Hudson, who had seven kills and 12 digs. Lexi Mann also had nine kills. The members of the Class 5A All-Tournament Team are: MVP Caroline McDaniel, Montgomery Academy; Addi Vinson, Montgomery Academy; Elle McBride, Montgomery Academy; Emmy Sorrell, Montgomery Academy; Laney Kelley, Arab; and Sami Kate Hudson, Arab. Sand Rock Falls In 2A Volleyball Finals The Sand Rock Wildcats fell to Pleasant Valley by scores of 25-13, 26-24, and 25-18 in the 2023 Class 2A State Volleyball Finals. Sand Rocks Katelyn St. Clair had 18 kills and 11 digs for Sand Rock. Rylin St. Clair, Katelyn’s cousin, had 20 assists. Chloe Stephens also had a team-high 13 digs. To reach the championship game, Sand Rock earned a 3-1 victory over GW Long in the Semifinal round. The Wildcats defeated Alexandria 3-2 in the opening round of the state tournament. The members of the Class 2A All-Tournament team are: Lily Henry, Pleasant Valley (MVP); Madi Hay, Pleasant Valley; Maddie Schwabe, Pleasant Valley; Allie Bryant, Pleasant Valley; Katelyn St. Clair, Sand Rock; and Rylin St. Clair, Sand Rock. All-American 8-man Football Bowl Cornerstone Christian's Jake Nelson has been selected to participate in the prestigious Gatlinburg All American Bowl 8-man Football game and combine on December 14-16, 2023. This event serves as the ultimate platform for private and home school football players nationwide to demonstrate their exceptional skills. Jake will also have the opportunity to receive some Punter training with James Wilhoit.
