Geraldine moves to 10-1 with State Playoff win
By Brandon K. Pierce The Sports Ledger Geraldine's defense, offense and special teams all found the end zone in the first quarter against Susan Moore on Friday, November 10, 2023 in the opening round of the AHSAA State Playoffs. Geraldine scored
on a pick six with 10:34 remaining in the first quarter, added a 12-yard rushing touchdown at the 7:26 mark, and Jacob Dollar (#3) blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown with 2:53 left in the opening quarter. Early in the second quarter the Bulldogs added
two more touchdowns, and earned a safety after Susan Moore snapped the football out of the back of end zone, to pull ahead 36-0. Geraldine went on to defeat Susan Moore 56-14 to advance to the second round of the State Playoffs, which will be at Gordo on November 17.
The game will mark only the 6th time in school history that the football program has reached the second round of the playoffs. This year's team also becomes only the second squad in history to reach the 10 win mark in a season. The Bulldogs are currently 10-1 overall.
Tyler Pierce (#2) passed for 100 yards to help the Boaz Pirates earn a 10-7 victory over Southside in the opening round of the 2023 AHSAA State Playoffs. The win marked the Pirates' first playoff victory since 2008. Boaz improved to 6-5 overall with the win and the Pirates are scheduled to host Pleasant Grove in the second round of the state playoffs. By Brandon K. Pierce The Sports Ledger The Collinsville Panthers concluded the 2023 football season with a 28-21 loss to Southeastern in the opening round of the Class 2A High School State playoffs. Gavin Lang caught a 52 yard touchdown pass to bring the Panthers to a seven point deficit half way through the fourth quarter. The score gave the Panthers a chance late in the game to pull out the win, but the program's final two passes of the season fell incomplete in the end zone as time was running out in the fourth quarter. With the loss, Collinsville finished the season with an 8-3 overall record and the Panthers

Panther quarterback Mason McAteer completed 14 of 27 passes for 135 yards and a touchdown. He also ran the football 11 times for 79 yards in the playoff game. Teammate Quintavious Rogers ran the football 14 times for 80 yards, running for a pair of touchdowns. Rogers also had three kick returns totaling 77 yards. Southeastern was led by the running of Jarrod Williams, who rushed 31 times for 348 yards and two touchdowns in the win. He also had an interception. Southeastern (7-3) advanced to the second round of the state playoffs and will travel to Tuscaloosa Academy (9-2).
