ered him a great deal and he would no longer read the book for very fear that he might become converted. Just before his oldest sister died she had said to him, “I would be glad to die if only through my death you might be brought to know the Lord Jesus.” Before she died she expressed the confidence that one day God would answer her prayers and save her brother, whether she lived to see It or not. Through her death a younger sister, to whom she had spoken and for whom she had prayed, was lead to put her trust in Jesus Christ as her Saviour. This young man had none of the usual Jewish objections, but through much association with Gentiles had become like them. After a long conversation, which apparently made little impression on him, he was left with the urgent request that he read the Gospel of John, and give God a chance to speak to him. Before reading the gospel he was asked to offer that oft-repeated prayer for the skeptic—“Oh, God, if there be a God, show me if Jesus Christ is thy son or not.” “The entrance of God’s word giveth light,” for one day after having faithfully read the gosp’el he called his wife to him and said: “Something has happened to me”— and sure enough something had happened and that something was that he had “passed from death unto life.” His great desire now is to get strong enough to go back and see his mother in the East and seek to undo the wrong he did her in leading her into atheism. Will you not pray for the mother? BIOLA HALL WORK D avid C ant, Supt.— O ur C ity M ission for Men in th e c en ter of Los A ngeles. M eetings continuous from 10 a. m. to 10 p. m. N oon-day P ray e r M eeting. OU insult my intelligence” replied a young man standing before Biola Hall as the gracious invita tion was presented to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved. As he turned away he re called the story of the rich young man who rejected the true riches which the Son of God offered almost two thousand years before.

,the old bridges burned, and under the clear teaching and fellowship of the Institute he is growing in grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus. In striking contrast to this rich young man was a lad whose degeneracy had sunk him to the lowest depths and though for a time he was as one seeing “men walking as trees” the pure clear stream of God’s matchless grace is bringing about a great change even in things external. So here we run the extreme scale of social stature, none too low for Christ to lift so high but that there is still room to low for Christ to lift; none so high but that there is still room to stoop before the rugged cross. One man seeking a thrill in a movie and finding, in his own language, the show “rotten" came our way. The good Samaritan in this case was a young student who came down to Biola Hall looking for a “fish.” Was it mere cur- iousity which constrained this pleasure-seeker to enter Biola Hall? We believe not. From the fact that he was reached and saved then and there, we know the Spirit of God led him. He surely was a happy fellow. His mouth was opened to witness and he went on his way rejoicing.' And the servant said, “Lord, it is done as Thou has com manded and yet there is room.” gfe SEAMEN’S WORK C laude Pearson, Supt.— O ur W orkers b o ard all vessels in th e p o rt of San Pedro, holding Gospel Services and D istrib u tin g L iteratu re. efforts to v isit the vessels later in the evening have been greatly blessed. One young captain left a number of guests to talk about eternal things, then closed his conversation by saying, “I wish that I had more time to talk over these matters with you.” It will be many months before his ves sel returns but we are waiting patiently for that time. One evening, after a short conversation with a chief en gineer, he complimented us by remarking, “I have heard a good many mission workers and preachers but never have they applied the word to my everyday surroundings to such an extent as you.” We thank him and then drive home more forcefully those claims we had just cited. For in stance we had called his attention to the laws of naviga tion, mechanics, and our respect for his room as his home and our duty toward him as his guest. He requested our speaking to “his boys,” meaning the men under him, and we were only too glad for such an opportunity. How happy any worker is when he finds men who realize that Christ in the life will solve all labor problems, beginning with him self and ending with each employee. Repeatedly we have asked our readers for a personal line telling us we occupy a place in their prayers. We want to thank those who have written and those who have not. We believe thousands of men out on the sea away from home and kindred will be benifitted by them. Letters and cards from the men themselves stimulate such activity. RETURNS FROM AN INVESTMENT ON ONE DOLLAR A recent letter from one of The King’s Business family, encloses a check for $20.00 and the writer says: “This is from Mrs. E. C., and is the outcome of my sending her a year’s subscription to The King’s Business.” That dollar was surely well invested, and is a suggestion for the other members of The King’s Business family. gfe E can always sing praises to Him who has called us into this part of His vineyard, but especially so this month. A cordial welcome has been ex tended by many of the men and ship officers. Our

“Memory like an adder stingeth All the wasted past upbringeth If I could that viper strangle Half my misery would be o’er. But around my heart it coileth All my frantic efforts foileth ’Tis the worm which never dieth Will it quit me, never more, Echo answers— never more.”

This young man is but one of many in these days when the old serpent is still seeking to substitute human wisdom for divine revelation and multitudes are falling for it. But we can praise God that there are increasing numbers of men who are not only listening to the words of life but the definite results are greater than in all the years we have preached the Gospel in our present quarters. The increasing lawlessness and moral degeneration are driving thinking men back to The Book. One such,— rich, gifted, returning from a world trip, confessed to being sim ply appalled at the corruption he constantly ran into; thor oughly sick and disgusted he was drawn to Biola Hall to find the way out and the way home. His eagerness and genuine desire to be “cleaned up” in the blood of Christ was good to see and the anxious sinner and seeking Saviour met together. The effect was instantaneous. Keen to take in the word and come in contact with the people of God,
