A Glimpse of the Future
The Walled Garden, Worden Park
When we discovered plans were underway to restore a local Grade II-listed, 18 th -century treasure for the Leyland community, we were thrilled to offer our support. Hidden within Worden Park lies a long-forgotten Victorian walled garden. Once used to grow food for the Farington family of Worden Hall, the space is steeped in history, with 250-year-old walls, a Victorian melon pit, and a grapevine believed to be a cutting from Hampton Court.
Although nature reclaimed this space during the pandemic, one local couple saw an opportunity to breathe life back into it. And not just the garden, but those visiting it too. Matt and Emily Tyler, founders of Rooted Connections, were driven by their own personal experiences and passion for health and wellbeing to create a quiet, restorative green space - somewhere people could reconnect with nature, grow medicinal plants, and slow down from the pressures of everyday life. But it was discovering Worden Park’s forgotten walled garden that truly sparked their vision. The more they learned about its heritage and potential, the more they saw the opportunity to create something special: a peaceful sanctuary centred around wellbeing, horticulture, heritage, and community connection.
