ECOC 2022 MARKET FOCUS AWARDS
ECOC 2022 EXHIBITION INDUSTRY AWARDS In conjunction with Optical Connections
Launched in 2020, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the event, ECOC introduced the ECOC Exhibition Industry Awards, in conjunction with Optical Connections. The awards return for 2022 and will once again emphasise technology and product commercialisation; they highlight significant achievements in advancing the business of optical communications, transport, networking, fibre-based products, photonic integration and related developments.
BEST FIBRE/ FIBRE COMPONENT PRODUCT Fibre and its connectivity are among the forefront of optical communications technologies. This award identifies technology, product, or process innovations that distinguishes and/ or drives lower cost, improve ease of installation, improve reliability, increase connectivity density and scalability. Innovative fibre designs, fibre management systems, fibre adapters, trays, modules and connection systems. MOST INNOVATIVE PRODUCT Looking across the industry, what new product is driving change in its respective market segment? What’s timely and helping to increase the use of optics? Metrics for this award include design features that are photonics, electronics, thermal, mechanical, chemical, environmental and carbon footprint based. OPTICAL INTEGRATION (SIPH AND/OR OTHER) Photonic integration has been identified as a path to lower cost, lower power consumption and higher throughput and silicon photonics has been in the centre of the debate, however this award is technology agnostic. The Committee is looking for technologies that integrate (hybrid or monolithic) numerous optical functions to increase capacity while lowering cost and power consumption. A critical part of this award that the product is shipping for revenue.
DATA CENTRE INNOVATION/ BEST PRODUCT This award is broad based and covers patch panels, switches, transceivers, servers, fibre, etc. Nominees should demonstrate lower cost, lower power consumption, thermal management and commercial viability. Innovative packaging/line card and co-packaging solutions are also considered, along with software solutions that increase security efficiency and help reduce footprint and power consumption. MOST INNOVATIVE FTTX PRODUCT This award is also broad-based. It covers fibre, connectivity, installation, transmission gear, high speed and environmental design. Hardware and software solutions which increase bandwidth capacity, its management and overall scalability are also considered. OPTICAL TRANSPORT This award focuses on higher capacity and lower transmission costs, higher speeds, modulation/coding, longer reach, higher wavelength density and multiplexing schemes, as well as the innovative use of electronics and software which enable more competitive photonics solutions in the network. Ir also covers advanced designs that permit longer reach, higher capacity with fault tolerance, error correction, dispersion management and system design, and the use of higher performance optical components and co- packaging designs to enable multi-100’s Tbps capacities in switches and routers.
Michael Lebby, CEO, Lightwave Logic, accepts the ECOC 2021 Optical Integration Award.
2021 ECOC EXHIBITION INDUSTRY AWARD WINNERS Optical Transport Award: Ciena for Liquid Spectrum Best Fibre Component Product: Lumenisity for NANF CoreSmart cable Most Innovative Product/ Optical Integration: II-VI for OIF Type (2) IC-TROSA Optical Integration Award: Lightwave Logic Data Centre Innovation/ Best Product: Source Photonics for its 800G OSFP and QSFP-DD pluggables
All award nominations have been carefully considered and voted on by the Market Focus Committee, which reviews the progress of advanced technologies from research to commercialisation including volume production as well as new and innovative products. Winners will be announced live at the exhibition on Tuesday 20th September.
