SMALL JOYS, BIG SHIFT: POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY YOU CAN USE EVERY DAY

I am a social worker in private practice, with the foundation of a Psychology Degree, I use a holistic approach that is tailored to each persons unique and individual situation. I use evidence-based psychological theories to normalise your current situation, and provide realistic achievable strategies to make a positive difference.

SURVIVING THE CHRISTMAS PERIOD

Silly season is upon us, and it is the silly season for so many reasons!

Most of us are experts at postponing joy until the inbox is empty, the to-do list is done, or the stars finally align. Positive psychology offers a kinder path: it teaches us how to cultivate wellbeing in the middle of real life, without pretending everything is perfect or “good vibes only.” It’s not about toxic positivity. It’s about building practices that help your nervous system settle, your attention soften, and your heart re-open to the beauty already around you. Below are simple, science-informed tools I use with clients (and myself!) to grow everyday resilience. They pair beautifully with body-based approaches like Reiki, breathwork, or gentle movement. Think of them as small, repeatable acts that rewire how you relate to yourself and the world. Savouring: stretch the good by 20 seconds (Glimmers) Your brain is Velcro for the negative and Teflon for the positive. Savouring is how we “teach” it to linger on what nourishes us.

When something tiny but pleasant happens (warm sun on your face, a kind text, the first sip of coffee) pause for 20 seconds. Breathe. Notice the sensations, the colours, the sound. Let the experience land in your body. You’ve just turned a passing moment into a micro- dose of regulation.
