When emotions surge, the body goes offline or into overdrive. Cognitive tools land better once the system is steadier. Think: down-regulate, then reflect.

Try this: Box breathing (inhale 4, hold 4, exhale 4, hold 4) for one minute.

Or try the 5-4-3-2-1 grounding: name 5 things you see, 4 you feel, 3 you hear, 2 you smell, 1 you taste.

These reset buttons make space for kinder thoughts to emerge.
