Karli’s dad, who owns a small nursery, found himself with an excess of one particular variety. Wanting to help him out, we listed the plants online from home. It was meant to be a small favour, a temporary solution. But within days, our notifications were buzzing. Orders poured in from locals wanting to buy them, and soon, people began asking for more different species, different sizes, plants for balconies, backyards, and living rooms. That small moment of unexpected demand sparked something inside us. We built a simple website. We started offering delivery, using our family car as our first delivery van. What began as a casual side project quickly grew roots. But we didn’t just want to sell plants, we wanted to create a business that gave back. From day one, we made a commitment that every sale would contribute to something bigger than ourselves. Each month, a portion of our profits goes to Australian conservation initiatives, helping replant trees, restore wildlife habitats, and protect endangered ecosystems. Every plant sold isn’t just a piece of greenery in someone’s home, it’s a contribution to the planet’s well-being.
Of course, the early days were anything but easy. The picture of entrepreneurship people see on social media, the freedom, the flexibility, the glow of success, was far from our reality. We worked late into the night building the website and managing orders. Our weekends were spent delivering plants, and lunch breaks became packing sessions. I didn’t quit my corporate job until a year in, and Karli made the difficult decision to leave her position two years later, still
dealing with her injury and still determined to make this work.
