sweeper and a broom. The Lord Jesus came to the temple at Jerusalem and found that it was being used in a wrong way. Here is a picture showing Him cleansing the temple. Christ is concerned a b o u t o u r having clean hearts today. I hold in my hand a paper heart with the word “SIN” written on it. You will notice that this heart has two red halves. The red reminds us of the blood of Jesus. As I fold the halves over the heart, you will see that sin is gone and only the cross of Christ is left. How glad we should be that Jesus Christ cleanses hearts from sin! that Christ should be the son of David with rights to David’s throne, they correctly a n s w e r e d , “The son of David.” Then the Lord quoted the Scripture that reveals Christ as being not only David’s son, but David’s LORD as well. These Pharisees were denying the deity of Christ; they could not answer our Lord’s question, unless indeed they were ready to deny the origin of their own Scriptures. In the light of their own Scriptures, they tvere condemned. None of them dared to ask Him any further ques tions in the hope of entangling Him in His speech. Incidentally, here is a striking illustration of the divine wisdom of Jesus and His familiarity with the spiritual meaning of all Scripture. He f o u n d references to Himself in those Scriptures, and He followed them through’ to the cfoss. the empty tomb, and the throne in glory. >We should note that, while the Pharisees were answered, silenced, convinced—all this was against their will. They willed to reject the truth that was, to them, unanswerable. This was our Lord’s final word to these Pharisees and their companions. II. T eaching D isciples (23:1-3) Turning from the Pharisees*, Jesus addressed the multitude together with His disciples. He reminded them that the scribes and Pharisees occupied Moses’ seat; that is, they were there

heart. The “I,” placed in the center of the heart, should be 14 of an inch wide and about 3 inche% high, much taller than the “S” and “N.” Fold the two halves over the heart, and the “ S” and “N” will be covered. About 4 inches from the point of the heart, color, with red crayon, the cross arms of a cross on the half hearts.) LESSON: What are a sweeper and a broom used for? “To clean house.” We read in the Bible a b d u t a “ house”—the Lord’s house, the temple —that was cleansed w i t h o u t a Matthew 22:41 While the Pharisee» were gattaereil together, Jesus asked then*, 42 Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They »ay unto him, The son of David. 43 He saitb unto them. How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, 44 The Lord said unto n»y Lord, Sit thou on m.v right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool? - 45 If David then call him Lord, how Is he his son ? 4fr And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day«, forth ask him any more ques tions. 23:1 Then spake Jesus to the multi tude, and to his disciples, 2 Saying, The scribes and the Phari sees sit in Moses* seat: 3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. 4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. 5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phy lacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, 6 And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the syna gogues, 7 And greetings In the markets, and to be called of men. Rabbi. Rabbi. S But be not ye called Rabbi: for one Is your Master, even Christ: and all ye are brethren. P And eall no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in .heaven. 10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ. It But he that Is greatest among you shall be your servant. LESSON TEXT : Matt. 22:41 to 23:11. GOLDEN TEXT: *‘The stone which the builders rejected is becom e the head of the corner”"

salem. When He arrived there He went into the temple. What He saw there displeased Him very much. The people were buying and selling right in God’s' house. Jesus turned their tables over and drove them out of the temple. He said, “It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it
