He spoke of the wine as repre senting His BLOOD. The bread and the grape juice both give us a picture of His SUFFERING. The LOTd’s Sup per is sometimes referred to as a COMMUNION service. I will tear this paper and fold it to represent the breaking of bread by the Lord Jesus when here upon earth. [Tear off the narrow tongues referred to and fold the large flaps over the writing.] We now see a cross, and on the cross we read these words: “IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.” The Lord’s Supper was given to remind us con stantly of His sufferings. GOLDEN TEXT : «Not my will, but thine, be done” (Lk. 22:42). DEVOTIONAL READING: isa. 50:4-3. Outline and Exposition I. T h e S o rrow (14:32-34) P RAYER was our Lord’s resource to gather refreshment for HiSf soul and strength for His spirit. It was an hour in which hosts of evil spirits must have been ready to exult in His sufferings and approaching death. Three of the disciples were taken with Him near to the place of prayer,, but they could not enter it, -nor appre ciate the blackness of darkness de scending upon their Lord. The world’s iniquity was soon to come upon Him at the cross, as He voluntarily as sumed this tremendous burden. He asked the disciples to tarry and watch while He went to pray. But they fell asleep. The sorrow which He en dured was not for His own sake, but on behalf of those who had no under standing of their fearful sinfulness and dire need of Him. It is our feeble understanding of how dreadful sin is, with our light views concerning it, that hinders us from understanding what Christ endured in the darkness of Gethsemane. II. T h e A rrest (14:44-46) The words, “He that betrayed him,” | in every hour of need. As He approached the cross, He turned to commune with His Father, and thus

Four inches from the bottom on the vertical edge of each one of these flaps, cut inward IV 2 iriches. One-half inch above this make a like cut. Fold these tongues of paper outward, and the opening made by them will form the cross arm for a cross. The opening between the large, flaps will form the upright for the cross. Just above the cross arm, in the opening between the flaps, write the word “IN,” printing downward. On the cross .arm, write the word “REMEMBRANCE.” Below the cross arm write the words “OF” and “ME.” Open the paper and using the letters in the words “ IN,” “OF,” and “ME,” complete the following words: “WINE, SACRAMENT, BLOOD, SUFFERING, COMMUNION, BREAD.” ) LESSON: This piece of paper re minds us of a loaf of bread. We find written on it some words which sug gest truths about the Lord’s Supper. The first wbrd is “WINE” and the last “BREAD.” The second word is “SACRAMENT,” the name used by some people when referring to the Lord’s Supper. The third word is “RE MEMBRANCE.” Jesus said that the Lord’s Supper was in remembrance of Mark 14*32 And they came to « place which was named Gethsemane* and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray. N 33 And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and hegan to l>e sore amazed, and to be very heavy* 34 And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding: sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch. 44 And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely. 45 And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith. Master, Master; and kissed him. 4« And they' laid their hands on him, and took him. 15:1 And straightway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes . and the_ whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate. 2 And Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answering said unto him. Thou sayest it. 3 And the chief priests accused l»«m many things; but lie answered nothing. 1 And Pilate asked him again, saying, Answerest thou nothing? behold liow many things they witness against thee. 5 But Jesus yet answered nothing; so that Pilate marveled.
