Today, when the whole world seems a Valley of Weeping, are there not songs that tell of the passing of pil grims who have found the well that is always there to quiet faith? For One is with us in the valley . . . There is a fellowship amid the shadows, with Him who as the Man of Sorrows passed this way for love of us, that a n g e l s might well envy, but can never know.—Mrs. Howard Taylor. 5. He Arosel ii “The gospel of God, . . . concerning his Son Jesus Christ . . . declared to be the Son of God with power, accord ing to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead” (Rom. 1:3, 4). We rejoice and are glad that the Prince of life could not be holden by the power of death. We look within that empty tomb and behold with the wondering disciples the perfect order of it and learn thereby how complete is Satan’s defeat, and how signal is God’s victory over all the power of death; and we bow in adoration be fore Him.—J. T. Mawson. 6. ■ Increasing Joy “In thy presence is fulness of joy" (Psa. 16:11). The consecration of all 4o our Mas ter, far from lessening our power to impart, increases both our power and our joy in ministration. The f i v e loaves and two fishes of the disciples, first given up to the Lord and blessed by Him, were abundant supply for the needy multitudes and grew, in the act of distribution, into a store of which twelve hampers full of fragments re mained when all were fully satisfied. —J. Hudson Taylor. 7. Art Thou Not Our God? “O Lord God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? . . . in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is ablff to withstand thee?” (2 Chron. 20:6). In one of his letters to Erasmus, Luther said: “Your thoughts of God are too human.” Jehovah Himself complained to apostate Israel: “Thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself” (Psa, 50:21) . . . When we fear He is unable to thwart the evil designs of men or demons; when we imagine that His plans are contingent on human sufficiency; or when our idea of Him is anything less than the altogether Almighty, Omni potent, and All-sufficient One, then we, too, have thoughts of God which are “too human.” —A London Journalist. 8. Constant Dependence “But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh” (Rom, 13:14),

Christ’s gift to fallen man is not the restoration of Adamic perfection, but union with God through the indwell ing of Christ . . . It keeps us in con stant dependence on Him, so that our life is at once a paradox of utter insuf ficiency and divine all-sufficiency . . . Apart from Him we can do nothing; and yet we “can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth” us. —A. B. Simpson. 9. Palm Tree and Willow ye shall take you on the .first day . . . branches of palm trees . . , and willows of the brook; and ye shall rejoice before the Lord your God sev en days” (Lev. 23:40). The palm tree grows upright'in the sun. It is the emblem of greatness, renown, success, blessing, life in its best colors;'. . . the willow is reverse to the palm. It stands for sadness, disappointment, loss and death; and yet, on the first day of that last week, the people had to bring both the wil-
