Thames River Cruise
Tastes & Treasures of the Thames Valley
Royal history, rolling fields, market towns, and classical colleges follow the River Thames as it winds through the historic counties of Berkshire and Oxfordshire to London. Our tour showcases the pleasures and treasures along the river, from a cream-tea cruise along its waters to the delights of Henley-on-Thames, Royal Windsor, and Oxford’s ‘dreaming spires’. Other attractions include a wine- tasting and time to enjoy the botanical beauty of The Savill Garden. PACKAGED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Thames River Cruise & Henley-on-Thames Today begins with a Cream Tea Cruise on the River Thames . After boarding a sightseeing boat, enjoy a leisurely 2-hour round-trip to picturesque Mapledurham Lock. Savour a cream tea while sailing by waterside homes, islands, and picture-postcard ‘Wind in the Willows Country’ - the scenery that inspired one of Britain’s children’s classics. This afternoon, visit Henley-on-Thames , a beautiful, 13th century riverside town in Oxfordshire, famous for the annual Henley Royal Regatta. Here, we enjoy time to stroll by the river and visit restaurants, shops, and attractions such as the River & Rowing Museum. Day 3 The Savill Garden & Royal Windsor We start today at The Savill Garden , a 35-acre oasis in Windsor Great Park. Commissioned by George V and created by Sir Eric Savill, this ornamental haven offers wonderful summer and early-autumn displays of vibrant roses, hydrangeas and nostalgic royal-themed gardens. In the afternoon, visit Royal Windsor, crowned by Windsor Castle, a home to British monarchs for over 1,000 years. Enjoy time free to stroll the cobbled streets, and admire gems like the Olde King’s Head pub, reputedly where Shakespeare wrote ‘The Merry Wives of Windsor’, and Nell Gwyn’s House. Day 4 Oxford & Brightwell Vineyard This morning we visit Oxford , dubbed the ‘City of Dreaming Spires’. Flanking the River Thames and River Cherwell, this university city’s glorious architecture spans its stunning Christ Church college and cobbled lanes to its 17th-century Bodleian Library and Ashmolean Museum. There is time to explore independently, perhaps enjoying the city’s colleges and quadrangles, a museum, or Cherwell punt ride. This afternoon, visit the lovely Brightwell Vineyard , a family-run winery amid the rolling Chilterns. Stroll through the vines, learn how the wines are made, and taste 5 varieties on a tour. Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we make our way home.
