Nostalgic Rails & a Boat with No Sails Diverse, energetic and bursting with character, the Manchester region is one of the most exciting places to visit in the UK. Known as the birthplace of the industrial revolution, the city is packed full of attractions, galleries and museums. We include a visit to Manchester Airport Runway Visitor Park to see Concorde, a rail journey, canal trip with traditional fish & chips, a visit to Bury as well as an Elizabethan mansion and a railway museum. PACKAGED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Manchester Airport Runway Visitor Park & Dunham Massey This morning we make our way to Manchester Airport Runway Visitor Park where we enjoy the Concorde Classic Tour . We board the Concorde and learn about some of the unique features and famous passengers that made the Concorde so special. There are steps involved in order to get on board Concorde. This afternoon we visit Dunham Massey , a courtly Elizabethan mansion with French style formal gardens. An exploration of the house brings its rich history to life and the gardens offer a tranquil haven complete with freely roaming fallow deer. Day 3 East Lancashire Railway & Bury Market Today, we travel to Rawtenstall where we step back in time for a nostalgic trip on a steam train along the East Lancashire Railway . Our journey takes us through the beautiful Lancashire countryside to the market town of Bury, where we can browse the world famous Bury Market, with its extensive stalls. We have as much time as we need for lunch and shopping. Day 4 West Lancashire Light Railway & Kittywake Canal Cruise Keeping with our transport theme, today we start by visiting the West Lancashire Light Railway Museum , a narrow gauge steam railway where we have time to admire the large collection of industrial locomotives and tuck into tea and cake . At lunchtime, we head to famous Wigan Pier where we board our Kittywake Boat for a 2 hour canal cruise and a fish & chip lunch . We sit back in the comfort of our heated cabin to watch the ever changing scenery from a unique perspective, as we pass through areas key to the Industrial Revolution. We also have the unique experience of cruising through a working lock. Our boat has a fully stocked bar, so we can wash our meal down with a choice of drinks (not included). Please note, today’s West Lancashire Light Railway visit is based on exclusive group booking and strictly subject to attraction availability. Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we make our way home.
