A Valleys, Peaks & Dales Wanderer A truly special journey awaits on this new tour of some of the Northwest’s best known sights and scenery. Starting in Lancashire we enjoy the Ribble Valley, rich in Roman history, as well as a step on tour of Oswaldtwistle Mills, before turning our attention to the spectacles of the Yorkshire Dales – including a canal cruise and a famous vineyard - and the Peak District. PACKAGED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Guided Tour of Ribble Valley & Oswaldtwistle Mills This morning, we join a step on guided tour from Oswaldtwistle to enjoy a scenic drive through the picturesque Ribble Valley , travelling through some well-known places such as Ribchester, built on the site of a Roman fort, and Longridge whose town centre is mostly built from the locally quarried sandstone. Our journey ends at the Oswaldtwistle Mills shopping village and garden centre. This award winning former weaving mill has over 100 retailers under one roof, garden centre, mill grounds, craft and sewing centre, Textile and Heritage Museum and even its own wildfowl reserve. Enjoy a bite to eat in one of the 5 restaurants and browse the shops. Day 3 Yorkshire Dales We travel to the Yorkshire market town of Skipton - ‘Gateway to the Dales’- and today it’s market day. Dating back to medieval times, the traditional street market takes place on Skipton High Street. You have the morning at leisure to explore, before embarking on an hour cruise on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, served with tea/coffee & biscuits for a more relaxed view of the town and surroundings. Note that market days are Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday. Day 4 Peak District This morning we enjoy a scenic drive towards Ladybower Reservoir via the Snake Pass, which was made famous during World War II when it was used by the Dambusters RAF squadron to practice low level flying techniques. Our journey continues onto Holmfirth Vineyard, to really soak up the “Last of the Summer Wine” with a vineyard tour, tasting of 3 wines as well as a sparkling Afternoon Tea. (Note: Up to 12 metre coaches only, due to tight corners). Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we make our way home.
