Carlingford Lough Ferry
Coast, City & Castle Cracker Our excellent base for this new tour is the Carrickdale Hotel & Spa in County Louth. From here, we enjoy time in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland for the ultimate island of Ireland adventure! We stay close to the coast with visits to the coastal resorts of Carlingford and Newcastle, as well as a scenic journey along the beautiful Mourne Coastal Route, and enjoy some time in the city with a choice of visiting either Belfast or Dublin for the day. We also see the impressive Slane Castle and experience life on a working Irish farm. PACKAGED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. This coastal town retains much of its medieval charm, so we can take in a number of historical sites and castles as we stroll through the narrow streets and lanes of the walled town. We then hop on the Carlingford Ferry for a 15 minute scenic sail from Greenore to Greencastle. Upon arrival, we have free time for lunch in the small seaside town of Newcastle, before enjoying a picturesque drive along the Mourne Coastal Route, taking in beautiful coastline and the majestic Mourne Mountains, the highest mountain range in Northern Ireland with 12 peaks. Please note that the Carlingford Ferry is only available on select dates (May-September). Alternative visits can be arranged outside of these months. Day 3 Belfast or Dublin Day 2 Carlingford, Newcastle & Mourne Coastal Route This morning we head to Carlingford to explore at leisure. Today we have the choice of visiting either Belfast or Dublin, thanks to our hotel’s location between these two brilliant cities. Both offer so many great attractions, such as: HMS Caroline; Titanic Belfast; or a harbour tour in Belfast to the Guinness Storehouse; Trinity College & The Book of Kells; Jameson Distillery; St Patrick’s and Christ Church cathedrals; or a River Liffey Cruise in Dublin. Please speak to your account manager to tailor your requirements. Day 4 Causey Farm & Slane Castle Today we experience life on a traditional working Irish farm at the family run Causey Farm . We get the chance to be Irish for the day by throwing ourselves into things like turf cutting and rustling up soda bread, and trying our hand at hurling, folk dancing and drumming. We then head to the spectacular Slane Castle , overlooking the River Boyne and home to the Conyngham family, for a guided tour and to learn all about the family, the history of this architectural wonder and the big-name concerts that have been held here over the years. Please note: Slane Castle is strictly on a request basis only and may involve moving itinerary days closer to arrival. Why not add a tipple to today’s Slane Castle visit and include a stop at the excellent Slane Distillery to enjoy a taste of their award-winning blend? Please contact us for information.
