A Castle, Cotton Mill & Whisky Experience

Unwrap centuries of history on our packaged tour around Edinburgh and the beautiful Scottish Borders and Lanarkshire. From our hotel near Peebles, we take in the mysterious Rosslyn Chapel and Dawyck Botanic Gardens, sample what life was like in New Lanark’s 19th-century cotton mills and savour highlights of Scotland’s capital, including Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile and The Scotch Whisky Experience. PACKAGED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 New Lanark World Heritage Site Today brings a v isit to the New Lanark World Heritage Site , a restored 18th-century mill village alongside the River Clyde. Here, we can see revamped millworkers’ cottages, view antique milling machinery and explore the Visitor Centre which charts the story of the village, which was turned into an enlightened social experiment by Robert Owens, who gave the workers decent homes, children’s schooling and free healthcare. Meet a hologram of the spirit of 10-year-old Annie McLeod, who describes life here in 1820, explore Robert Owen’s house, visit the rooftop garden, shop and cafe, and stroll We spend today in Edinburgh, starting with a visit to magnificent Edinburgh Castle, perched atop an extinct volcano. We then take a short stroll to The Scotch Whisky Experience , where we enjoy a guided tour, nosing and tasting . We spend the rest of the day at leisure, enjoying free time on the famous Royal Mile in the heart of Edinburgh Old Town. This imposing avenue for serving as a royal processional route between Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace, and is lined with shops, restaurants, pubs and visitor attractions, which we can enjoy at leisure before returning to our hotel. Day 4 Rosslyn Chapel & Dawyck Botanic Garden This morning we visit one of Scotland’s most remarkable and famous buildings, Rosslyn Chapel. This 15th-century chapel is covered with elaborately carved stone scenes and figures that are amazing to behold and steeped in mystery. Hear about the intriguing stonework from the chapel guides who give regular, free talks about this extraordinary place of worship. In the afternoon, we visit the highly regarded Dawyck Botanic Garden , home to one of Scotland’s finest tree collections, which includes some of Britain’s oldest and tallest trees, and is known for its outstanding seasonal displays. Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we make our way home. the riverside to see the picturesque Falls of Clyde waterfall. Day 3 Edinburgh Castle & Scotch Whisky Experience
