The Gower Peninsula
Flavours of the Gower & South Wales
This new tour based in Swansea, puts us in prime position to immerse ourselves in the history and heritage of Wales, with visits to Newton House and Penderyn Distillery as well as a traditional Welsh Afternoon Tea. Add to that a step-on tour of the beautiful Gower Peninsula and time at leisure in Swansea, and we’re surely on to a winner! PACKAGED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Swansea, Mumbles & Penderyn Swansea Copperworks This morning we travel to Swansea where we have plenty to do and see, from the obvious shopping to a surprising variety of museums and galleries, including Swansea Museum, Wales’s oldest, The Glynn Vivian Art Gallery and of course, The Dylan Thomas Centre, Swansea’s famous son. We travel along the sweeping waterfront of Swansea Bay to nearby Mumbles for lunch at leisure. This afternoon, we head back into Swansea to the Penderyn’s Swansea Copperworks Distillery , where we enjoy a guided tour and tasting and learn about this famous and award- winning whisky. Our tour and tasting will teach us about the founding of Penderyn and what makes the different whiskies taste as they do, so we’ll begin to understand why its reputation as a quality whisky producer is growing. Day 3 Carmarthen & Newton House, Dinefwr We start our day today in legendary Carmarthen, on the banks of the River Tawe. Said to be the birthplace of the wizard Merlin, it is the oldest town in Wales and we have plenty of time to explore the indoor market and curio shops and take a leisurely lunch. The afternoon is spent visiting Newton House , set in the magnificent Dinefwr Park & Castle estate, where we have a guided tour of the house. A family home for over 300 years, today we still see many of the original 17th century features, including the grand staircase and exceptionally ornate ceilings. Day 4 Gower Peninsula, Heritage Centre & Welsh Afternoon Tea Our journey today takes us to the delightful Gower Peninsula, instantly recognisable with its glorious sweep of golden bays. We visit the Gower Heritage Centre and enjoy a guided tour of the 12th century water mill before embarking on a step-on guided tour of scenic the Gower Peninsula . Afterwards, we return to the Heritage Centre for Welsh Afternoon Tea. Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we make our way home.
