TRADITION ELEVATED Na krilima tradicije

Oktobar October

Tradition elevated

O ctober is a month that has special meaning for us – and this 26 th October will see us celebrate twelve years of Air Serbia. Since 2013, we have together built a network that connects people, cultures and ideas, and have placed Belgrade on the map as an important aviation hub for the region and beyond. Our new visual identity and slogan, Tradition elevated, re- present a natural evolution of the brand that stems from who we are: an authentic national airline that looks to the future wi- th ambition, energy and pride. While we celebrate tradition, we also continue to grow: our fleet will soon gain two more modern Embraer aircraft, offering even greater travel comfort. We enter the winter sea- son with new additions to our network, with places like Naples, Bari, Florence and Split to become year-round destinations — marking another step towards providing our passengers with more choices and flexibility. October also provides an opportunity to reflect on the cultural richness that inspires us, with Germany taking cen- tre stage as a country that occupies a special place in Air Ser- bia’s network. We are connected to Germany through eight destinations – from the dynamic Berlin and iconic Cologne, via Düsseldorf and Hanover, all the way to Hamburg in the north and Stuttgart in the south. Also, Germany is maybe best known during this autumn month for the world’s largest book fair, which is held in Frankfurt. Wherever you go – with Air Serbia you’ll always travel in style and comfort, and with a spirit that carries something more. Something uniquely ours. Welcome to your flight.

Berlin is a tale of constant re- invention. This marked the launch of con- struction of the Berlin Wall. The border surrounding West Berlin would reach a length of 168 kilometres. And many li- ves were lost during numero- us attempts to make it over that wall in the years that followed. This frightening example of collective insa- nity finally fell on 9 th Novem- ber 1989, and something that had once been a symbol of hatred, division and madness instantly became a symbol of unity, love and peace. It ser- ves as an eternal reminder of what was, but also of what is important. The remains and position of the wall are mar- ked with metal tiles on the pavements of Berlin everyw- here, but the East Gallery has preserved a large slice of the wall that has been decorated with interesting works by mo- re than 100 artists from over 20 countries. The most famo - us is undoubtedly the Brot- herly Kiss, depicting the “lo- ve” between Leonid Brezhnev and Erich Honecker, but the- re’s also the famous pictu- re of a Trabant car smashing through the wall, alongside many other murals of hope and love.

The kingdom of books The Berlin State Library (Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin) is Germany's largest scienti- fic and universal library, con - taining over 32 million books and a wide range of unique objects that include manus- cripts, historical maps and globes. Founded in 1661, it became one of the world’s most important academic li- braries at the beginning of the 20 th century. Following World War II, its collections were divided and its develop- ment ground to a halt for al- most half a century as a re- sult of the schism between East and West Berlin. Part of the library is located in Pot- sdamer Street and was ope - ned in 1978 to house modern collections, while the histori- cal site and location of the li- brary is on Unter den Linden boulevard. There’s also the Old Library (Alte Bibliothek), housed in a historic building that was commissioned by Frederick the Great and also offers a glimpse into the past.

It initially served the nobili- ty and scholars, before being opened to students in 1810. Festival of Lights It is naturally also worth ta- king a peek into the less ob- vious corners of the ci- ty. Prenzlauer Berg, with its cafés and vintage boutiques, reveals Berlin’s bohemian so- ul, while Teufelsberg, a hi - ll built on World War II rubble, is today home to a huge for- mer spy station that’s deco- rated with murals and graffiti. If you love nature, Tiergarten Park resembles something from a fairy tale in autumn. October is particularly exci- ting in Berlin thanks to the annual Festival of Lights, which transforms the entire city into a spectacle of diffe- rent colours and projections. City of parks and contrasts

Hanover might not be the first destination that springs to mi- nd, but those who visit it wi- ll discover a tranquil, cultu- red and green city that they’ll surely want to visit again. The baroque Herrenhausen Gar- dens, complete with founta- ins and flower labyrinths, re - presents a real jewel, while the centrally located Masch Lake serves as an oasis of serenity. Exploring these parks is par- ticularly charming in October, when autumnal colours enve- lop every corner. Art lovers will enjoy Hano- ver’s Sprengel Museum, whi - ch houses modern works, whi- le the curious will enjoy the old town (Altstadt), with its narrow streets and traditional wooden houses. Those desiring somet - hing a little different should vi- sit the Ernst-August-Galerie shopping centre for a modern shopping experience or explo- re the Linden district, which is known for its alternative cultu- re, murals and music clubs.

Grad parkova i kontrasta

U oktobru šetnja ovim parkovima dobi - ja dodatnu čar jer jesenje boje obavijaju svaki kutak.

Ljubitelji umetnosti uživaće u „Sprengel“ muzeju, domu modernih dela, dok će rado - znalci uživati u Starom gra - du (Altstadt) sa uskim uličica - ma i tradicionalnim kućama od drveta. BALET / BALLET Fantastični Danil Simkin stiže u Srbiju The fantastic Daniil Simkin arrives in Serbia

N a poziv Aje Jung, direktorke Baleta Srpskog narod- nog pozorišta, u Novom Sadu će prvi put nastupiti međunarodne baletske zvezde Jana Salenko i Danil Simkin. On u Srbiju stiže kako bi uveličao omiljenu predstavu Novosađana, „Labudo- vo jezero“ u koreografiji Vladimira Logunova. Biće to prva klasična produkcija kojom Balet najstarijeg teatra započi- nje sezonu, odmah nakon premijere savremenog koreograf- skog diptiha „Dobre vibracije“. Status prvaka baleta je dobio 2012. go- dine.

I nternational ballet stars Iana Salenko and Daniil Simkin will perform in Novi Sad for the first time, following an invitation from Aja Jung, director of the Ballet of the Serbian National Theatre in Novi Sad. These world-famous dancers will be guest performers for the performance of Swan Lake that’s scheduled for 8 th October. Simkin is among the most renowned ballet dancers of our time, with experts often comparing him to Mikhail Baryshnikov. His arrival in Serbia will amplify the performance of Novi Sad’s favourite ballet, Swan Lake, choreographed by Vladimir Logunov. This will be the first classical production to open the season of the ballet company of the country’s oldest theatre, to be staged immediately after the premiere of Good Vibrations, a contempo- rary choreographic diptych dance show. Sinkin was born in the Russian city of Novosibirsk in 1987 to renowned ballet dancers Dmitry Simkin and Olga Alexandro- va. His family relocated to Germany’s Wiesbaden in 1990, where Daniil grew up. He began practicing dance with his mother on a daily basis from the age of nine. That period of intensive training lasted a full decade and saw him win numerous significant ballet awards. Upon completing his high school studies in Germany in 2006, Daniil joined the Vienna State Opera Ballet as a demi-so- loist and simultaneously launched his career as a guest artist per- forming worldwide. He left Europe for New York in 2008, where he joined the American Ballet Theater as a soloist, becoming an ABT principal dancer in 2012. He has since performed leading roles in the classical and neoclassical works of the ABT’s rich repertoire.

KNJIGA / BOOK Novi prevod Njegoševog „Gorskog vijenca“ New translation of Njegoš’s Mountain Wreath

Pisano u for- mi narodne epike, delo pruža panoramski prikaz Crne Gore krajem 17. veka – društva duboko podeljenog i ugroženog spoljašnjim pritiscima. O ne of the most significant works of Serbian literature, Petar II Pet- rović Njegoš’s The Mountain Wreath, has received a new edition in English entitled The Highland Wreath and translated by Serbi- an author and essayist Momčilo Selić. With great care and a deep under- standing of the language, context and poetics, this previously unpublished translation conveys to foreigners the power of Njegoš’s verses, the rhythm of its folk decasyllable and all the layers of one of the most complex texts of the literature of Serbia and Montenegro. The Mountain Wreath is much more than a historical poetic work – it represents an epic drama, a philosophical treatise and a political par- able. Written in the folk epic form, this work offers a panoramic depic- tion of the Montenegro of the late 17 th century – when it was a deeply divided society, exposed to external pressures.

T he unique venue that is the Sava Centre’s Blue Hall will host a musical event on 9 th October that promises to be an un- forgettable experience: the performance of Carl Orff’s fa- mous masterpiece Carmina Burana.

T he Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade is showing the works of prominent contemporary artist Dragan Jelen- ković, who has spent decades exploring boundaries between images, objects and space. The exhibition, entitled Arithmology of Form, remains on display at Belgrade’s Gallery-legacy of Mil- ica Zorić & Rodoljub Čolaković until 3 rd November. Jelenković belongs to a generation of artists who champi- oned significant changes in the artistic and semantic expansion of the medium of sculpture that began during the 1980s, bring- ing greater complexity to the image of stylistically heterogene- ous and highly individualised sculptural poetics. This exhibition presents a curated selection of works from the artist’s oeuvre, as well as his latest pieces in which Jelenković thematises and explores the phenomenon of redefining form in the context of the current global juncture, including new ways of communi- cating, relations towards nature, the dictates of an overabun- dance of information and the predominance of digital images. Izložba „Aritmologija oblika“ u MSU / MoCAB hosts Arithmology of Form exhibition

A n exhibition entitled Time Eats the View – a selection from the collection of paintings of the Museum of Contempo- rary Art of Vojvodina will remain open to MSUV visitors until 31 st October.
