JOHAN ŠTRAUS II (25. oktobar 1825 – 1899)
KETI PERI (25. oktobar 1984 – )
KATY PERRY (25 TH OCTOBER 1984 - )
From a church choir to the world’s pop charts – Katy Perry’s sto- ry is the fairy tale of a contemporary pop star. Born Katheryn Eliz- abeth Hudson, she had wanted to forge a career under her real name, but she soon opted for a stage name that would ensure she wouldn’t be mistaken for actress Kate Hudson. Her breakthrough came with the 2008 hit I Kissed a Girl, which shocked audiences, but also marked a new era of pop – one that’s provocative, fun and free of complexes. Katy has since released hits like Firework, Roar and Teenage Dream, becoming one of the few artists to have as many as five chart-topping singles from the same album. Her performances are spectacles of colour – including everything from fireworks to huge cat costumes. Critics often dub her a “car- nival pop artist”, because each of her songs has its own story, set design and mask, becoming anthems of optimism and self-confi- dence for a generation that loves to have fun.
JOHANN STRAUSS II (25 TH OCTOBER 1825 – 1899)
If there was ever a person who knew how to compose joy, it was Johann Strauss II, the “King of the Waltz”. His city was Vienna, his trademark was the waltz, and his music became synonymous with celebration. His works, which include his most famous waltz, the Blue Danube, transformed the dance halls of the 19 th century into whirling chambers of elegance and joy. Interestingly, his father, composer Johann Strauss I, opposed his son’s de- sire to become a musician – he wanted him to study banking! But the young Johann was unable to resist the melodies that filled his soul. His first ever performance with an orchestra delighted the audience, and Emperor Franz Joseph himself soon also became a fan. Strauss composed over 500 works, including waltzes, polkas, marches and operettas. His music continues to mark the world’s most glamorous New Year concert, which is performed each year in Vienna’s Musikverein concert hall. He was a master of musical notes that encapsulate the light- ness of life while remaining eternal.
