St Peter’s Basilica & The Vatican City

Rome Sweet Rome: Glories & Gardens

Roll up for this unique tour combining the glories of Rome with the gorgeous gardens and villas of nearby Tivoli, once an imperial summer retreat. From our base in the spa town of Tivoli Terme, where we have the chance to bathe in natural thermal waters, we head to Rome to tour the Colosseum, Vatican Museums and more. Plus, we visit Tivoli to marvel at two UNESCO-listed treasures – Hadrian’s Villa and the sumptuous Villa d’Este Gardens. SUGGESTED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel and enjoy some free time before dinner. Day 2 Rome After breakfast, we make our way by coach for a full day sightseeing tour of Rome. With a licensed step-on guide providing commentary, we take in this historic city’s major sights, including landmarks such as the Trevi Fountain – remember to toss a coin into its waters to ensure your return – 18th century Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona and Pantheon. We also enjoy a guided tour of the mighty Colosseum, the world’s biggest ancient amphitheatre, where we hear stories of its gladiators and glory days. Day 3 Tivoli Terme We spend today in Tivoli Terme, with the opportunity to enjoy this lovely spa town at our leisure or catch a local train or bus into Rome to explore more of the city as we wish. If staying in Tivoli Terme, we can head to the nearby Acque Albule thermal baths, one of Italy’s most renowned thermal spas, to relax in the same warm waters as the ancient Romans. Alternatively, we could unwind at our hotel, relaxing at its outdoor pool or in the deluxe spa with its indoor pool and wellness treatments (extra charges apply). Day 4 Hadrian’s Villa & Villa d’Este Gardens Following breakfast, we set off by coach with a licensed step-on guide for Tivoli, a summer retreat once beloved of Rome’s ancient and Renaissance elites, to discover its two UNESCO World Heritage highlights. We enjoy a guided tour of Hadrian’s Villa, the remains of an opulent 2nd-century estate built and enjoyed by the emperor Hadrian. We explore its crumbled villa, luscious gardens and fountain square as we hear of his pampered life here. We also visit the Villa d’Este Gardens, a 16th century Renaissance masterpiece made up of stunning terraces, fountains, grottoes and ornate pools. Day 5 St Peter’s Basilica & Vatican Museums Rome Today brings another excursion into central Rome, this time for a guided tour of St Peter’s and the Vatican Museums. We take in beautiful St Peter’s Basilica and St Peter’s Square, and visit the Vatican Museums to see their priceless treasures, including Michelangelo’s frescoes in the Sistine Chapel – learning their history from our guide along the way. Afterwards, there is free time to relax and stroll as we wish before returning to our hotel. Day 6 Departure After breakfast, we begin our journey home.
