Menton & the Côte d’Azur The Côte d’Azur is southern France’s most glamorous holiday hotspot and on this packaged tour we experience its glitzy resorts and other gems – all from our hotel in pretty, seaside Menton. Highlights include the painters’ village of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, visits to a Grasse perfume factory and breathtaking Rothschild villa, plus free time in Nice and a foray into Italy to visit two beautiful riviera towns. PACKAGED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Nice & Ephrussi de Rothschild Villa & Gardens This morning we head to cosmopolitan Nice, capital of the French Riviera. We enjoy free time to delve into the lanes and markets of the old town and stroll the palm-lined Promenade de Anglais beside the sandy beach and Mediterranean. This afternoon, we visit the Ephrussi de Rothschild Villa and Gardens, a stunning, pink-painted Belle Epoque villa overlooking the sea. We explore its exquisite rooms and gardens on an independent, audio-guided tour before savouring tea or coffee and a pastry in the tearoom. Day 3 Menton Driver’s Day Off Today we can relax in Menton, enjoying the amenities at our hotel and exploring this lovely seaside resort. We may wish to stroll the Promenade de Soleil, pausing for refreshments at the seafront cafés and restaurants, or roam the old town lanes to shop for souvenirs, and take in the splendid Baroque Basilica St Michel and the We enjoy a visit to the Fragonard Perfume Factory in Grasse, where we uncover the secrets of traditional perfume-making. On a guided tour we get fascinating glimpses into the manufacturing processes and factory skills used to create each precious scent. In the afternoon, we take a guided walk around Saint-Paul-de-Vence , the Riviera’s most beautiful hilltop village. As we discover the stone alleyways, fountains, and squares of this arty settlement, we learn how it was a favourite of 20th century artists like Picasso and Chagall. Day 5 Italian Riviera - Ventimiglia & Sanremo Today we succumb to the call of Italy, crossing the nearby border to sample the delights of two of its Italian Riviera gems. We spend a free morning in the seaside resort of Ventimiglia, with time to enjoy its old town, historic churches and waterfront cafés. Next, we continue to sophisticated Sanremo, where we have time this afternoon to soak up the grand villas, colourful old harbour and Russian Orthodox church of this lovely coastal town before returning to our hotel.
