Mozart’s Village in the Austrian Lake District Join us on a wonderful tour to explore Salzkammergut, the breathtaking lakeland region in the heart of Austria. Based in the pretty lakeside village of St Gilgen, we will discover the picture-perfect villages of Hallstatt and St Wolfgang. A ride on a historic cog railway will take us to the top of Schafberg Moutain for jaw-dropping views and we spend a whole day in the beautiful regional capital of Salzburg. PACKAGED ITINERARY Day 1 Arrival We have a whole day at leisure in the pretty lakeside village of St Gilgen to explore at our own pace. Overlooking the picturesque Lake Wolfgang with striking views of the mountains, take a stroll through streets lined with pretty painted alpine houses, colourful flower boxes and Austrian flags. Visit the house where Mozart’s mother was born or ride the cable car up the Zwolferhorn Mountain for an aerial view. This spectacular view may look familiar as it’s shown in the opening scenes of the classic film, the Sound of Music. Day 3 Lake Wolfgang and the Schafberg Mountain This morning we walk the short distance to the lake to board our boat across to St Wolfgang . We then board the Schafberg Mountain Railway for a spectacular journey upon Austria’s steepest cog railway to the summit. Upon our return to St Wolfgang, we enjoy free time in the village before returning to our hotel by boat once more. Day 4 Salzburg Today we head to the stunningly beautiful city of Salzburg, known as Mozart’s birthplace and the iconic setting for the film ‘The Sound of Music’. With so much to see and do, explore the old town, a UNESCO World Heritage site to see ornate Baroque churches and domes, medieval buildings and famous landmarks. Learn about Mozart at his birthplace, No.9 Getreidegasse, now a museum depicting his early life. On the same street, shop for souvenirs including delicious chocolate Mozart kulgeln or take in the opulent beauty of the 17th century Mirabell Palace and Gardens, another famous filming location. Day 5 Hallstatt Today we enjoy an excursion to the iconic, picture postcard village of Hallstatt. We have free time to explore the village and its delightful lakeside setting, or alternatively we can take the cable car to the salt mine above the village for a quite unique experience as well as stunning views. We return in the early afternoon for free time at our hotel to relax. (Please note: The coach drop off and parking in Hallstatt is chargeable and must be pre-booked to ensure availability). Day 6 Departure After breakfast, we begin our journey home. We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 St Gilgen – the village of Mozart
