Curly Whiskers is Brighton’s new elegant crêperie 124 Martin St, Brighton

ON THE MARKET with Nick Renna and Mark Staples Winter may soon be upon us but the market is still running at full steam. After the strongest quarterly price growth since 2013, Melbourne’s median house price has risen to $826K according to the REIV. Although the Easter weekend was typically quiet, average clearance rates across the nation’s capitals nonetheless nudged towards 80%, up by approximately 10% over last year’s figures. Robust growth has also been observed in the apartment sector and regional sales, thanks to continued low interest rates and a relative lack of supply in the market. For houses close to the CBD, Thornbury has seen a significant uptick as buyers find themselves priced out of popular inner suburbs like Northcote, according to REA Group Chief Economist Nerida Conisbee. In the larger picture, Consibee observes, affordability remains the driver of suburb popularity, with people prepared to commute if the right home and lifestyle are on the table. Thinking of selling?
