Biola Broadcaster - 1966-05

There is no indication in the Bible that would intimate that the saved will have to look upon the condition of the lost throughout eternity. Q . Garden Grove, Calif ___“ What is the meaning of the Scripture which states ‘the pearl of great price’?" A. This is from Matthew 13:45 and 46. It is a beautiful, incomparable parable. Some erroneously think this means that when the sinner finds the pearl of great price, which is salva tion, he goes and sells all that he has to buy it. The Bible doesn’t teach this at all. One cannot buy salvation. This is what our Lord Jesus Christ bought by His death on Calvary’s cross. He gave His very life to redeem us. Q . Riverside, Calif. — “The ecumenical movement has developed through the National Council-of Churches and has me very perplexed. Would you speak on this some time?” A. We believe this effort to unite all churches, and ultimately all faiths, in cluding eventually pagan religions around the world, is certainly not of God. Prophetically the Bible speaks of such taking place in the last days. We believe this system as advanced by the N.C.C. is frought with all kinds of dangers. We are unalterably opposed to the entire ecumenical movement. Whenever there is a person who be lieves the Bible to be the Word of God, the only infallible rule of faith and practice, joining his hands and heart with one who disbelieves these great truths, see who makes the com promise. This is always the tragic part. History has repeatedly borne out the sad results. The true believer will have to sublimate his stand or give up his true convictions. Christians need to be alerted to the insidious dangers of this satanic system. Q . Tacoma, Waah. — “Is there a differ ence between the kingdom of heaven and the kingdom of God?” A. Yes, there are differences, however, there are also similarities. The king

dom of God is used in the Bible in the largest, universal sense, in which all created beings, holy and unholy, are under God’s universal soverei gn, omnipotent rule. In the most restrict ed sense it refers to only those who have come to know God through the Lord Jesus Christ, either looking for ward to His finished work (such as Abraham), or looking back to His finished work, which is true of all be lievers since Calvary. This is the most circumscribed meaning of the king dom of God, over against the univer sal meaning where God is sovereign over all. Kingdom of heaven refers to the rule of the heavens over the earth. This -is the Messianic kingdom. Q . Canoga Park, Calif. — “Could you explain what is the meaning of some of the numbers used in theology? As an example, I understand that five is the number of grace.” A. This is called numerology. While there are many valuable lessons to be gained in such a study one must be careful not to become so entangled that he fails to see spiritual realities
