Green Bay Packaging Attains Green Master Status For 12th Straight Year The Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council (WSBC) has named Green Bay Packaging a Green Master within its Green Masters Program. Recognizing sustainable ac- tions by businesses from across the state of Wisconsin, the Green Masters program works to identify businesses that have taken at least one action within each of the nine pillars of sustainability. Participants in the program receive recognition for their sustainability accomplishments and develop ideas for future sustainability actions. In 2021, Green Bay Packaging began operation of a new $500 million state-of-the-art paper mill with first-in-in- dustry energy-saving technologies that reduce green- house gas emissions per ton paper production and zero direct discharge of water to the Fox River. The project is

the first of its size in Wisconsin to reclaim treated water from an adjoining sewerage district. “This world-class mill design provides ‘sustainable product innovation’ on a holistic scale by doubling the

facility’s capacity for paper recycling, reclaim- ing and recycling water in a circular system to reduce impacts to local water sources, utiliz- ing energy efficiencies to reduce greenhouse gases, implementing process efficiencies that reduce waste generation, and using mixed paper material input for an increased circular fiber economy that diverts more office paper from landfills,” said Corporate Environment and Sustainability Director, Lisa Bauer-Lotto. Green Bay Packaging strives for achieve- ments and continuous improvement in sus- tainability programs to advance sustainability stewardship within its operations and value chain. Since inception and as a pilot compa- ny of the Green Masters Program, Green Bay Packaging has implemented systems in core sustainability areas to accomplish awareness, key performance indicator transparency, and improvements across our company. The Green Masters Program is an objec- tive, points-based recognition, assessment, and certification program that enables Wiscon- sin businesses of all sizes and from any sec- tor to join a group of like-minded companies working towards sustainability. The program has established three levels of participation: “Green Apprentice,” “Green Professional,” and “Green Master.” Green Bay Packaging joined the program as a Green Master in 2010. Each year at the Wisconsin Sustainable Busi- ness Council Conference, the current top 20 percent of companies that applied during the calendar year are identified and recognized as the Green Masters level companies. Green Bay Packaging was recognized by the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council for the twelfth consecutive year in 2021. This
