Saxophone Professor DR. KENNETH TSE released The Voxman Project album on Crystal Records. This is one of the first University of Iowa album releases where students and faculty perform together on chamber works. Beautifully programmed hour of music for mixed ensemble. This is stimulating repertoire, superbly performed and well recorded. Another gem for Crystal Records’ catalog. - Fanfare (Colin Clarke, Sept/Oct 2021) O’Riordan’s Saxophone Concerto has “a lot of clever and effective writing, and Tse is a splendidly fluent and masterful advocate for this new concerto…[the Weill] is a most credible performance which stands comparison with the best in the field.” - MusicWeb (Marc Rochester, July 2021) The Voxman Ensemble gives robust performances … The Milhaud and Weill are solid, and all the lyrical passages are especially heartfelt. Tse is excellent all through, easily handling all the challenges of the O’Riordan and delivering elegant and expressive phrasing in the Milhaud and Weill.” - American Record Guide (Hanudel, Sept/Oct 2021)

The School of Music participated in UNITY WEEK, the University of Iowa’s annual celebration of growth in diversity, equity, and inclusion, by sharing stories of how we are working towards becoming a more inclusive department. Programming included the Face Truth/Face Self: Creative Arts in Response to Social Injustice concert, Music from the Margins concert, premiere of Dr. Mary Watkins’ Five Movements in Color, and the Iowa Women’s Music Collective, an organization in its first year here in the School of Music. The mission of the Collective is “to educate the University of Iowa and the surrounding public about the music of gender marginalized composers through outreach, performance, and research.”
